Joao Felix, the talented but troubled striker, is reportedly close to completing a move to Al-Nassr from Chelsea in a deal worth up to £43.7m (€51m). He will join superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi Pro League, but the move has been met with fierce criticism from his own FIFA-licensed agent, Jen Mendelewitsch.
According to sources, Felix will travel to Riyadh for a medical and is expected to sign a contract with Al-Nassr soon. The combination with CR7, whom he has admired since childhood, is expected to help the 25-year-old striker regain his form. However, the move to Saudi Arabia instead of continuing his career in Europe has caused controversy.
Speaking to RMC Sport , Jen Mendelewitsch condemned Felix for putting money ahead of football ambitions, saying he was no longer a real player but just a tool for financial purposes. She also criticized Felix for failing to integrate with top European clubs such as Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Barcelona, and AC Milan.
Mendelewitsch said that although there were rumours of Felix returning to Benfica, this did not seem to suit his wishes financially.
Once hailed as one of Europe's most promising young talents, Felix has endured a rocky few years since his £106m move to Atletico Madrid in 2019. The striker has struggled for consistency across spells with Chelsea, Barcelona and AC Milan.
A move to Al-Nassr would take Felix to a league less competitive than Europe's top leagues. He would have the chance to work with Cristiano Ronaldo, whom he admired as a child, and hope to rediscover his form. However, at 25, the decision was seen as a setback in his journey to conquer European football.
For Chelsea, the deal is part of a sell-off strategy to ease financial pressure and comply with UEFA's squad registration regulations after a big summer spending spree. Felix is expected to travel to Riyadh for a medical and sign a contract with Al-Nassr soon.
