When I was a student, I always felt immense pressure as summer approached, pressure because it was the time when we students were busy studying for our final exams. Even so, I still enjoyed the buzzing of cicadas in the flame trees, which made me think I had to focus on studying hard to have a meaningful summer. My childhood is long gone, and I also experienced summers filled with the buzzing of cicadas. When summer arrives, I feel excited and eager to return to my student days, putting away my books and notebooks, and playing and having fun with my friends on the country roads, without worrying about studying or exams. During the day, I would just play freely with my friends, and at night, I would sleep soundly until the next morning.

Back then, my friends and I used to go catching cicadas. On country roads, or even right at home, the cicadas would chirp incessantly on the branches, deafening our ears. Yet, that sound made it easier for us to find them. At noon, none of us were sleeping, so we'd meet in the garden and sneak up the trees to catch them. We used long bamboo sticks, cut and shaped, then attached a cloth screen to catch them. In the hot midday sun, the cicadas' chirping filled the garden like a summer music party. Even so, everyone slept soundly because they were used to the sound. We'd put the caught cicadas in a tin can, cover it with a net, and listen to them. We'd occasionally take them out to look at them until we got bored and then release them. Sometimes we'd compare the cicadas, deciding which one was the wife and which one was the husband, or whose cicada was bigger, and then trade them for all sorts of things. Thinking about those moments brings back so much joy.

Many people say there's nothing interesting or enjoyable about the sound of cicadas, that their noise is deafening and gives you a headache. But for me, it's the iconic sound of summer, the symbol of childhood. Sometimes I think that if summer days didn't have the sound of cicadas, they would be so boring. Under the green trees, the buzzing of cicadas still echoed in my ears. My friends and I played hide-and-seek, dragon and snake, marbles... When we got tired of one game, we'd switch to another, playing while listening to the cicadas blending into the peaceful countryside, creating an incredibly enjoyable feeling. The sound of cicadas seemed to encourage me and my friends to play even more. We were so engrossed in playing that we didn't know what fatigue was, and we even forgot the time to go home for dinner, causing our parents to search everywhere for us.

Many times, I feel that the sound of cicadas is like a soothing love song for my sorrows. Whenever I'm sad or angry, I often sit under a tree to enjoy the cool breeze and listen to the cicadas perform their music. The intensity of the sound gradually increases, as if wanting to dispel people's fatigue and worries. Cicadas! Keep chirping, keep chirping, spreading the sound of summer throughout the countryside so that later, no matter how far anyone goes, they will remember the sound of cicadas, the symbol of summer.

The sound of cicadas, the call of summer, the call of childhood memories. Although I no longer go catching cicadas, no longer play the childish games of the past, the sound of cicadas still lingers somewhere in my mind. Through the sound of cicadas, I also experience the passage of time as I grow and mature, a feeling that is hard to forget, making me cherish those beautiful memories even more.
