This program is part of a series of events on “STEM Education, Intellectual Property, and Innovative Entrepreneurship” for Vietnam and ASEAN countries, organized by the WIPO Academy in collaboration with the Intellectual Property Office ( Ministry of Science and Technology ) and partners. The series of activities, ranging from policy vision to practical classroom implementation, took place from November 24-28 in Hanoi.

A key highlight of the event series is the STEM education model lesson on intellectual property and innovative entrepreneurship for high school students, themed "Greenhouse Planting".

The lesson content is part of the "STEM, Intellectual Property, and Innovative Entrepreneurship" program developed by Smartschool based on the WIPO Academy's INCIPE model and has been successfully implemented in many preschools and primary and secondary schools, including Ta Quang Buu Secondary and High School.

The program's highlight is its harmonious blend of scientific thinking, creative ability, legal knowledge, and entrepreneurial spirit. Each lesson is designed to be engaging, inspired by inventions and useful solutions in Vietnam. Through this, the lessons connect theory and practice, helping students develop problem-solving skills, proactive creativity, and confidence in integrating into the knowledge-based economy . In particular, the practical kits in the program allow students to directly experience the design and creation process of STEM products in a visual and engaging way.

Attending the lesson were a delegation from the WIPO Academy, international trainers, delegates from ASEAN countries, representatives from management agencies, as well as teachers and students from the school. Following the lesson, the delegates participated in a discussion session, providing feedback and sharing their thoughts on the potential for scaling up the STEM-intellectual Property-Entrepreneurship and Innovation education model in different school contexts in Vietnam and the region.

According to experts, unlike traditional science education, WIPO's model goes beyond simply teaching knowledge; it guides students towards innovative thinking combined with intellectual property skills – a key element in the knowledge economy. Each learning topic is designed as a complete cycle: Identifying practical problems in Vietnamese life; exploring innovative solutions that have been patented; analyzing the novelty, level of creativity, and technological applicability of each solution; designing, critiquing, and refining ideas; developing business ideas and starting a business… This training cycle, successfully implemented in many developed education systems, is being introduced for the first time in Vietnam through a collaboration between WIPO Academy and Smartschool.

According to Altaye Tedla, Director of the WIPO Academy: STEM education—innovation—and intellectual property are not just trends, but urgent requirements for building a globally competitive workforce.

In the lesson "Greenhouse System," 7th-grade students were introduced to a Vietnamese invention: a smart greenhouse system. Student groups analyzed the novelty of the solution, evaluated its innovative aspects compared to traditional models, and proposed improvements to better suit the country's climate and agricultural conditions. The classroom atmosphere was lively, with students exchanging ideas, debating, and offering improvements related to optimizing light, saving water, and increasing productivity. The results showed that the model was not only suitable but also strongly stimulated the creativity of Vietnamese students.

This educational model, developed by Smartschool based on the WIPO curriculum framework and with the support of the Intellectual Property Office, directly addresses long-standing bottlenecks.

With the support of the Intellectual Property Office and WIPO Academy, Smartschool is pioneering a new direction for STEM education, closely adhering to the strategic resolutions of the Party and the State.

Bringing core knowledge on intellectual property and innovative entrepreneurship to students from preschool to high school is essential preparation for Vietnam's next generation of global citizens, meeting the stringent requirements of the knowledge economy and the digital age.
