Can Tho buses continue to improve service quality, focusing on educating and instilling a positive attitude in drivers and conductors regarding traffic safety regulations. In addition, they are constantly expanding their route network to enhance connectivity.
Currently, 11 non-subsidized inner-city bus routes are operating in Can Tho City. These routes are operated by Phuong Trang FUTA Bus Lines Joint Stock Company (Phuong Trang).

This route has one line that is currently temporarily suspended: the Can Tho International Airport - Can Tho City Central Bus Station line.
The routes currently in operation are: Ba Láng - Ô Môn; Can Tho International Airport - Phong Dien town - Ong Hao historical site; Ô Môn - Lo Te intersection; Ô Môn - Vĩnh Thạnh; Lo Te intersection - Kinh B - extension to Kien Giang provincial bus station; Lo Te intersection - Co Do town; Can Tho - Giai Xuan - Phong Dien; Phong Dien - Lo Te Ba Se - Ô Môn; Phong Dien - Thoi Lai; Ba Láng - Tra Noc industrial zone - Ô Môn.
According to the Urban Traffic Management Center (Can Tho City Department of Transport), Phuong Trang has put 69 vehicles into service for the aforementioned routes. All vehicles are new, comfortable, and modern.
Along with affordable fares, this has changed people's perceptions of buses in the city. People are increasingly interested in and using buses as their primary mode of transportation.
According to statistics, in the first eight months of 2024, the passenger transport volume was approximately 557,438 people, an increase of 22% compared to the same period in 2023.
Despite the achievements, this type of passenger transport still faces certain difficulties.
Specifically, some routes have low passenger numbers because their final destinations are not yet connected to adjacent bus routes in the surrounding area.
Furthermore, people, especially those with low incomes such as factory workers in industrial zones, students, and schoolchildren, still choose private vehicles for transportation and have not yet prioritized buses as a means of transport.
On the other hand, the currently operating bus terminals are temporary terminals with limited facilities that do not meet the requirements for operation and use, thus affecting the activities of the transport units.
"Regarding the mechanism and policy, subsidies for public passenger transport by bus in Can Tho City are still lacking. Therefore, the currently operating bus routes do not ensure stable operating frequency, and the network has not truly developed widely due to concerns about not guaranteeing operating revenue for transport companies when investing in new routes," the Urban Traffic Management and Operation Center added.
Regarding the development of public passenger transport by bus in the coming period, the Urban Traffic Management Center stated that it will coordinate with Phuong Trang to further improve service quality.
This includes focusing on educating and raising the awareness and attitude of drivers and flight attendants in complying with traffic safety regulations.
At the same time, adjust the routes of existing bus lines and improve service quality. Continue to expand the route network to enhance effective connectivity between communes, wards, towns, districts, and counties to the city center and neighboring provinces.
