Continue to prioritize investment in rural clean water.

(Dong Nai) - On the morning of December 2nd, Provincial Party Committee member and Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Hoang chaired a working session with departments, agencies, and businesses in the water supply sector in Dong Nai province regarding the situation of clean water supply in rural areas of Dong Nai province during the 2021-2025 period and the orientation for the 2026-2030 period.

By December 2025, the percentage of rural households in Dong Nai province using hygienic water will reach 100%; the percentage of households using clean water meeting standards will be 79%, with 43% using water from centralized water supply systems and 36% using water from household water supply systems and water filters.

As a result of investment in rural clean water infrastructure during the 2021-2025 period, Dong Nai province (formerly) implemented the construction of 26 clean water supply projects in rural areas. Of these, 15 projects have been completed and put into operation, while 11 projects are in the project preparation phase. The total length of water supply pipelines connecting and expanding the water supply coverage from centralized water supply systems is 1,048 km. The total investment cost for these water supply projects reached over 2.3 trillion VND.

The percentage of rural households in the former Binh Phuoc province with access to safe water reached 100%. During the 2021-2025 period, the former Binh Phuoc province did not invest in rural clean water infrastructure from the state budget. Water supply companies in the province invested in approximately 320km of water pipelines, serving over 5,800 households.

To date, the former Dong Nai province has 91 rural centralized water supply projects, including 52 operational projects and 39 inactive projects. The former Binh Phuoc province has 48 projects, with 32 operational and 16 inactive.

Current challenges include the fact that most water supply companies lack specific water supply zones, leading to difficulties in developing long-term investment plans. Infrastructure planning is not synchronized, resulting in delays in some projects. Some areas are hampered by planning issues, preventing investment in water supply infrastructure to serve residents. The price of clean water, after assessment and approval, remains high compared to the income of rural residents…

During the 2026-2030 period, regarding investment in rural clean water infrastructure, Dong Nai province will continue to implement projects carried over from 2025; invest in 10 new projects, providing water to approximately 137,200 people with an investment of over 680.7 billion VND. In addition, the province will continue to invest in upgrading, repairing, and expanding water supply routes with a total investment of over 2.5 trillion VND.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Hoang emphasized: The province's goal by 2030 is for 85% of rural households to have access to clean water meeting standards, including 68% using water from centralized water supply systems and 17% using water from household water supply systems and water filtration equipment. Achieving this goal requires a great deal of work. She requested the Department of Construction and the Department of Agriculture and Environment to review all planned rural clean water supply projects and incorporate them into the province's planning.

The province will issue a separate directive requesting that wards and communes review the existing centralized water supply systems to ensure their suitability; zone investment, and avoid overlapping investments if projects already exist. This is a matter of investment planning; areas lacking such systems should be encouraged to attract investment, while sparsely populated areas should be supported in installing household water filters. The Department of Agriculture and Environment is tasked with reviewing water reservoirs throughout the province; those with reduced agricultural irrigation water needs should have their water supply redirected to domestic use, increasing the reservoirs' efficiency.

Regarding the province's clean water investment plan for the period 2026-2030, the Department of Agriculture and Environment, in coordination with the Department of Construction, will finalize this plan based on practical feedback from wards and communes.
