According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade , extreme weather conditions and an 80% probability of a super El Nino event occurring from July are putting immense pressure on the transmission system. In particular, water shortages at hydropower reservoirs and fluctuating LNG prices are causing difficulties in supply. To ensure electricity supply, the power sector is mobilizing all available resources, from coal-fired and LNG-fired power plants to high-cost oil-fired units. Simultaneously, the power generation schedules of over 300 small hydropower plants are being adjusted. The authorities advise citizens and businesses to conserve electricity, especially during peak hours from 1 PM to 4 PM and from 8 PM to 11 PM, to avoid the risk of localized overloads and grid failures.
