Electricity consumption continues to set new records.

According to information from the National Power System and Electricity Market Operation Company (NSMO), the peak power of the national power system on May 27th reached 58,039 MW at 1:40 PM, a 5.6% increase compared to the record level of 2025. Total electricity consumption across the system reached an all-time high of 1.217 billion kWh, 9.5% higher than the previous year's record.

Compared to the same period in 2025, national electricity production increased by 16.2%, while peak power increased by 15.3%. Notably, the Northern power system continued to record the strongest growth. The region's peak power reached 29,966 MW at 1:20 PM, a 6.3% increase compared to the 2025 record. Electricity consumption in the North reached a record high of 631 million kWh, 9% higher than the previous year's peak.

Compared to the same period in 2025, electricity production in the North increased by 25.7%, while peak power increased by 27.5%, reflecting a sharp increase in electricity demand amidst widespread hot weather. Regarding the regional electricity consumption structure, electricity production in the North/Central/South regions reached 631 million kWh, 111 million kWh, and 475 million kWh respectively, accounting for 51.9%, 9.1%, and 39% of the total national power system output.

Despite the high load, the power system continued to operate safely, stably, and continuously. Voltage at system nodes and equipment load levels remained within permissible operating limits. By May 28th, the load situation showed signs of easing due to thunderstorms that occurred from the afternoon of May 27th in Hanoi and many northern provinces, helping to reduce temperatures after several days of prolonged heat.

According to meteorological and hydrological agencies, on May 28th, temperatures in Northern and Central Vietnam tended to decrease compared to previous days, but widespread heatwaves persisted, with temperatures generally ranging from 35-39 degrees Celsius; some areas from Thanh Hoa to Hue even exceeded 39 degrees Celsius. As of 10:00 AM on May 28th, the national power load had decreased by approximately 1,300 MW compared to May 27th, with the reduction mainly concentrated in the North. To ensure the safe operation of the power system and optimize costs for users, the National Energy Management Agency (NSMO) recommends that people and businesses increase their use of electricity efficiently and effectively; and strictly implement Directive No. 10/CT-TTg dated March 30, 2026, of the Prime Minister on strengthening electricity saving and developing rooftop solar power.
