Illet has been growing her hair for almost a year. |
Frank Ilett, a Briton who now lives in Spain, started his challenge in October last year. Initially, he saw it as a joke, a way to bring laughter to the fan community during the difficult start of the season for Man Utd. However, the challenge lasted longer than expected and turned his “afro” into a familiar symbol for the past 351 days.
“It’s been a crazy journey. I never thought my hair, or my following, would get this big,” Ilett said.
The last time he thought he would get a haircut was in January, when United won three games in a row. But his hopes were dashed when the “Red Devils” fell to Crystal Palace in early February, ending the streak.
Speaking to BBC Radio Manchester, Ilett said he was sticking to his word and believed the club could build on a winning run from the end of November. “I hope by the end of the year I will have a haircut,” he said.
MU just beat Chelsea, but the possibility of Illet getting a haircut is not high. In the next 4 rounds, coach Ruben Amorim's team will face Brentford, Sunderland, Brighton and Nottingham. The match at Anfield will likely extinguish this young man's hope again, because MU has not won away at Liverpool in the last 9 years.
