The Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industry Group (TKV) is a state-owned economic group entrusted with the function of managing, exploiting, and processing various mineral resources in Vietnam. Typical examples include coal, bauxite, copper, silver, tin, zinc, and other minerals. Coal industry is TKV's key production and business sector. Currently, TKV is the largest coal producer in Vietnam with 21 member companies operating in underground and open-pit mines. The coal produced by TKV is anthracite in various types suitable as input materials for many different industries, such as steelmaking, power generation, cement, fertilizers, chemicals, and for domestic use.
TKV's annual coal production consistently exceeds 40 million tons.
TKV's underground mines are applying many modern and advanced mining technologies from around the world , especially mechanized and modernized systems in tunnel excavation, mining, ventilation, mine control, and mine drainage. The proportion of coal mined using synchronized mechanized systems is increasing, and the rate of coal loss during mining is decreasing, leading to increased production and business, and resource savings. For open-pit mines, TKV has been investing in large-capacity loading and transport equipment to increase loading and transport capacity; continuously innovating blasting technology to create large-capacity open-pit mines, gradually modernizing transportation operations. Currently, TKV's annual coal production reaches over 40 million tons, seven times higher than in its founding year of 1976. Labor productivity in the 2015-2020 period increased by an average of 12% per year. Total mining output for the entire industry from 2011-2020 reached 435.445 million tons. Mineral Industry: Besides its core business of coal, TKV has developed its mineral industry towards strengthening deep processing to increase added value and economic efficiency. The Group has invested in a series of modern non-ferrous metal processing machines including: copper, lead, zinc, tin, cast iron, steel, bromite, and other metals. In particular, in Lao Cai, the Group's copper complex produces and supplies the market with over 11,000 tons of copper sheets annually, along with accompanying gold and silver products. In addition, TKV produces 11,000 tons of zinc ingots and 180,000 tons of steel billets annually.
TKV currently has 14 power plants.
In particular, TKV is effectively operating two bauxite-processing alumina complexes in Lam Dong and Dak Nong provinces, laying the foundation for a new industry in Vietnam. These two alumina production plants are operating stably, supplying an average of over 1.3 million tons annually to the market, with quality meeting international standards and enjoying market trust. Industrial explosives and power industry: Besides coal, TKV has developed industrial sectors, including power generation, industrial explosives, and mechanical engineering. The group currently operates 7 power plants, 6 thermal power plants, and 1 hydroelectric power plant. In the industrial explosives sector, TKV has 6 open-pit explosive production lines with a capacity of 100,000 tons/year; 9 mobile explosive production lines and 2 underground explosive production lines, with a capacity of 8,000 tons/year. In addition, TKV has a plant producing explosive precursors, including: 1 ammonium nitrate production line with a capacity of 200,000 tons/year and 1 sodium nitrate production line with a capacity of 2,000 tons/year, serving the domestic and export needs of industrial explosives. Total revenue from production and services for the industrial explosives sector is approximately 7,000 billion VND.
TKV's annual revenue from industrial explosives is approximately 7,000 billion VND.
Mechanical Engineering Industry: In the mechanical engineering sector, TKV has 12 units (11 manufacturing companies and 1 specialized research institute). Recently, Vinacom has intensified research, consulting, and design work, applying digital technology to the manufacturing industry, promoting the production of goods to replace imported equipment, and gradually expanding into the regional market. TKV's mechanical engineering production lines are being modernized and are moving towards automation in each production stage to increase machining accuracy and improve productivity. Annually, revenue from the mechanical engineering sector reaches approximately 4,500 - 5,000 billion VND, making a very positive contribution to the group's overall business results. TKV's mechanical engineering industry has many outstanding products such as the EKV 10 excavator with a bucket capacity of up to 10 m³; trucks designed to carry up to 35 tons; and the AM 50z combination tunnel boring machine. Self-propelled drum sets... In addition, TKV's mechanical engineering division manufactures and assembles specialized equipment and vehicles such as industrial explosives transport vehicles, explosives transport vehicles, and multi-functional military transport vehicles.
TKV's mechanical engineering industry generates annual revenue of 4,500 - 5,000 billion VND.
TKV's production and business activities consistently ensure profitability, preserve and develop state capital, and strengthen the group's financial capacity. It consistently fulfills its obligations to the State at a high level, contributing to macroeconomic stability. For many years, TKV has consistently ranked among the top 10 of the 500 largest enterprises in Vietnam and the top 10 of the 1,000 largest taxpayers in Vietnam, as selected by VN Report. TKV strives to become a strong state-owned economic group with a strong brand and competitiveness in the region, a rational production and business structure, sustainable development coupled with environmental protection, contributing to national energy security, and promoting the development of local economies nationwide.
