Thai Binh 2 Thermal Power Plant is located in Thai Binh Power Center, built in My Loc commune, Thai Thuy district, Thai Binh province. The total investment of the project is 41,799 billion VND.
The Government assigned the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, now the National Energy Industry Group (PVN), as the investor. PVN operates and manages the project, and coordinates with the distribution and operation channels of the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), using coal from the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (TKV) for production. With the combination of 3 large corporations, it can be said that Thai Binh 2 Thermal Power Plant is a key project of the energy industry.
The project is implemented by the Vietnam Oil and Gas Construction Joint Stock Corporation (PetroCons) as the EPC general contractor; the consortium of Sojitz (Japan) - Dealim (Korea) is the main equipment supplier.

With a total area of 131.74 hectares, Thai Binh 2 Thermal Power Plant project has a capacity of 1,200 MW, a large-scale capacity project in the Northern Delta region.
Started in 2011, the project faced the risk of being "shelved" for nearly 10 years due to many difficulties such as financial crisis, legal problems and the general contractor's capacity not meeting requirements...

However, from July 2021, the project began to revive. By April 27, 2023, the plant was inaugurated and generated commercial electricity, connecting to the national grid.

With 2 units and a total power generation capacity of 1,200 MW, Thai Binh 2 Thermal Power Plant has the largest capacity in the Northern Delta region. In 2024, the plant will reach a production milestone of more than 6 billion kWh of electricity, exceeding 9%. Estimated revenue will reach more than VND 12,320 billion, exceeding the target by 13%, and contribute VND 300 billion to the State budget, exceeding the assigned plan by 20%.

The factory contributes to ensuring national energy security as well as contributing to socio -economic development and economic restructuring of Thai Binh province in particular and the Northern Delta region in general. The special thing is that no one can imagine that a project that has been "shelved" for decades like that with so many machines and equipment at risk of becoming scrap metal would be revived like today.

The plant uses condensing thermal power technology, direct-fired pulverized coal furnace, natural circulation with subcritical parameters and high indicators of efficiency, stability, safety, and absolute compliance with emission conditions according to Vietnamese and international standards.

The factory uses an automatic coal conveying line from the warehouse and yard to the crushing system.

The coal used for the project is coal dust 5, transported by river to a specialized coal port. The fuel used for starting and burning at low load is heavy oil FO No. 2B.

Inside the coal transmission warehouse is a large-scale, modern system, ensuring a continuous fuel supply for the power generation process.

The project is equipped with environmental protection facilities such as electrostatic dust collectors, SOx and NOx removal equipment systems, and wastewater treatment systems that meet current environmental protection standards.

The Operation Room, considered the "brain" of Thai Binh 2 Thermal Power Plant, is the center that controls all production, operation and monitoring of the plant's complex technical systems.

Here, dozens of engineers and technical staff are on duty to continuously monitor operating parameters, handle arising situations and ensure the factory operates safely and efficiently.
Each button and each operating command sent from the control room can affect the entire power production line, playing an important role in providing stable power to the national power system.

At the maintenance and repair workshop of Thai Binh 2 Thermal Power Plant, a team of technical workers is urgently checking, handling, and performing periodic maintenance to ensure that equipment and machinery operate stably and absolutely safely.

Mr. Pham Dac Nam - a worker in the Maintenance and Repair Workshop (Thermal Mechanical Team) - who has been with Thai Binh 2 Thermal Power Plant since 2014, was moved to tears when recalling the days of working with the project, going through difficulties and hardships and witnessing the spectacular revival of the plant today.

In the late afternoon and evening, Thai Binh 2 Thermal Power Plant appears like a "city of light" in the middle of a peaceful countryside. Rows of high-pressure lamps, lights from operating areas, transmission systems and smoke towers create a sparkling, modern scene.
