To convince Villa to sign a long-term contract, Sancho needs to prove himself even more. |
Sancho joined Villa Park on a one-season loan deal, as his contract with Manchester United expires in summer 2026. The Midlands club will pay approximately 80% of the English player's salary and there will be no loan fee. He previously played on a similar loan at Chelsea, but a permanent transfer fell through due to salary disagreements.
Sancho's slow start at Birmingham led many to believe Villa wouldn't keep him. However, the 25-year-old's recent form has shown signs of improvement. He has started six consecutive games in all competitions and provided an assist in the 1-1 draw against Bournemouth on February 7th.
However, manager Emery admitted that the possibility of signing Sancho permanently remains open. "He is a quality player. If Sancho shows his best form and fits our system, Villa will want to keep him. But that depends on his performance and many other factors," the Spanish strategist emphasized.
Coach Emery also frankly assessed Sancho's early season as "not up to par," but acknowledged his recent progress. To convince Villa to sign a long-term contract, Sancho needs to prove himself more.
Sancho's problem also lies in his finances. Sancho earns around £300,000 per week at Old Trafford, a figure beyond Villa's means. If he leaves MU on a free transfer, he could demand a significant signing bonus. Therefore, Sancho's future remains extremely uncertain.
