On September 29, Russia issued a stern warning, saying that the US's consideration of supplying Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine could push the conflict to a dangerous new level. The Kremlin stressed that the Russian military is conducting a "deep analysis" of scenarios, considering this a strategic security issue that could drag the war out of control.

The message came after US Vice President JD Vance announced that Washington was considering Kiev's request to receive Tomahawks. The statement raised international concerns that the US could go a step further in allowing Ukraine to launch strikes deep into Russian territory.

US President Donald Trump has yet to make a final decision. He is said to be cautious about turning the Ukraine conflict into a direct US-Russia confrontation. However, considering this move reflects Washington's frustration with President Vladimir Putin's steadfast rejection of the ceasefire agreement despite attending the summit in Alaska last month.

Tomahawks are a famous American land-attack missile with a range of up to 2,500 km. If deployed from Ukraine, they could reach Moscow and most of Russia in Europe.

The question is: How will the Tomahawks be supplied? Ukraine wants Washington to sell them to its European allies, then transfer them to Kiev to avoid a scenario where the US is directly involved. But in any form, the appearance of Tomahawks in Ukraine means that Moscow feels a threat right on its doorstep.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov asked directly: “Who will launch these missiles? Will it be Ukrainians or American soldiers who will do it? And who will decide the target – Washington or Kiev?” He stressed that these are factors that force Russia to comprehensively analyze before coming up with a response.

President Putin has previously warned that Russia reserves the right to attack military facilities located in countries that allow Ukraine to use missiles to attack Russia. This means that if Tomahawks are deployed through European territory, the bases involved could become legitimate targets in Moscow's eyes.

Andrei Kartapolov, chairman of the Russian parliament's defense committee, told the Mayak news agency that any US military specialists directly helping Ukraine operate Tomahawks would be considered a target.

On the US side, special envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, delivered a tough message. On Fox News, he said that Kiev was now capable of conducting long-range attacks. “Use deep strike capabilities. There is no longer any safe haven,” Kellogg stressed, referring to important cities and bases in Russian territory.

The tensions continue to rise, putting Europe on alert. Security officials warn that civilian infrastructure, from energy to communications, could be targeted in a joint Russian retaliatory operation. The future of the continent's security is facing its gravest challenge since the Cold War.

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev continued to issue a harsh warning on September 29: “Europe simply cannot afford a full-scale war with Russia. The risk of human casualties always exists.” This statement increased concerns that Moscow is ready to use extreme measures, including nuclear, if it perceives an existential threat.

However, the Kremlin still tries to lower Kiev's expectations. Spokesman Peskov said that even if Ukraine had Tomahawks, the situation on the battlefield would not change. According to him, "no missile can change the situation", while the Russian Army is still making slow but sure advances in Eastern Ukraine.
