Having just stepped onto the podium three times at the 2024 National Amateur Road Cycling Championship in Hoa Binh province in mid-October, Ton Hoang Khanh Lan appeared on the stage of the National Bodybuilding Championship in Ca Mau and won the gold medal in the 52 kg category and the women's all-around championship.

Even long-time competitors in bodybuilding such as Le Thi Huong Giang, Dinh Kim Loan or Bui Thi Thoa must admire the iron will and perseverance in training and competing of Ton Hoang Khanh Lan, a woman who seems to be born to play powerful sports .

Passionate about sports

Not living in the love of her parents during her childhood, Khanh Lan soon formed the mindset of an independent young woman to be able to protect herself from all events in life.

Not only does Khanh Lan love games that are only for boys like soccer or martial arts, she is also very good at these sports and often competes in them. Her grandmother and aunts often try to dissuade their hyperactive granddaughter from playing too many sports because they are afraid that she will lose her femininity. However, they all give up on Khanh Lan's intense passion for sports.

Growing up, while studying taekwondo and working as a caddy at Thu Duc golf course, she was selected to join the youth bodybuilding team of Dong Nai province and has been involved in this sport since 2001. After only one month of training, she won a silver medal in individual and a gold medal in mixed doubles at the national championship.

She has had no rivals in the 52 kg and above weight class since 2015 and is the women's all-around champion in 6 out of the last 9 national championships. Not to mention Khanh Lan has also "dominated" her weight class for 5 consecutive National Sports Festivals since 2006! Having no luck in participating in international competitions, it was not until the age of 41 that this determined female athlete reached the gold medal at the 2018 World Bodybuilding and Fitness Championship held in Thailand.

Currently an athlete and coach of the Dong Nai bodybuilding team, Khanh Lan always strives to strive while pursuing her career. Passionate about bodybuilding, she plans to retire only after participating in the 2026 National Sports Festival and aims to become the only athlete to participate in 6 consecutive festivals as well as win the championship in all 6 festivals.

Horizontal rider

In June 2022, at the invitation of her friends, she bought a sports bike and used it to commute to work every day. As soon as she had the completed bike, Khanh Lan registered to participate in an amateur competition in Ma Da (Dong Nai) and won a bronze medal. While running and accumulating experience, throughout 2023, she participated in dozens of amateur competitions and always got to step on the podium to receive medals.

"I have a health foundation accumulated through 20 years of bodybuilding, know how to create a nutritional regimen and maintain a strict training regimen, so from an amateur cyclist, I am known by many amateur racing teams across the country. Competing and achieving high rankings, I also expand my friendships in the places I compete in, in addition to having additional income from prizes as well as support from racing teams.

I think I still have the ability to race professionally, but my age is only suitable for amateur racing. The championship titles at major events such as Peace Destination Cycling Festival 2024, North - Central - South Big Arms Joining 2024, Ho Chi Minh City Amateur Team Time Trial Cycling Race 2024, National Amateur Road Cycling Race 2024... made me more famous than when I competed in bodybuilding and won the world championship" - Khanh Lan shared.

Not wishing to become a "warrior" but good at every sport, 47-year-old woman Ton Hoang Khanh Lan is living and satisfying her passion for sports in the most positive way.

Khanh Lan's daily training schedule makes everyone admire her: 4:30 am, cycle 20-25 km; 5:30 am, go back to the gym for tutoring; 8-12 pm, continue cycling according to the lesson plan; 15-22 pm, work out... Whenever she competes away from home, she often goes to the local gym to maintain her training.
