This afternoon (January 24), President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his delegation visited and worked at Vietnam-Germany University.

During the working session, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his delegation visited the Laboratory and practice of global production engineering and management, including the cutting machine experience. Notably, the President and his delegation delivered a speech to students and lecturers and discussed with students about recruiting highly qualified workers from the Vietnam-Germany University.

Sharing with students of Vietnam-Germany University, President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier hopes to attract more skilled Vietnamese workers to work in Germany.

In his message to the young people, the President compared the Reunification train to the backbone of Vietnam because it runs from North to South, connecting the two regions of the country. He believes that the backbone of Vietnam today is the people, especially the young people.

"The future belongs to you, the country belongs to you," he sent to the students of Vietnam-Germany University.

About 8.6% of graduates work in Germany

Vietnam-Germany University (VGU) is a public university, established based on a training and scientific cooperation project initiated by the Ministry of Education and Training and the Ministry of Science and Arts of Hessen, Germany. It came into operation in 2008 under the decision of the Prime Minister with the orientation of becoming a leading research university in Vietnam, the region and the world .

Vietnam-Germany University currently has 17 training programs in 6 specialized fields of science , engineering, and technology. The school is training more than 2,700 students and graduate students, including more than 70 international students from 24 countries. Every year, the school receives 100-150 German professors to teach and share knowledge. English is the main language in all activities of the school and students learn German as a second language.

The employment rate of students after 1 year of graduation is 97%. Of these, 82% work in fields related to their major and the number of students working in Germany is about 8.6%. In addition, about 23% of university graduates continue to study for a master's degree and 7% of students continue to study for a doctorate after completing their master's program.

Sharing during the working session, Dr. Ha Thuc Vien, Vice Principal of the school, hoped that the visit of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier would contribute to strengthening the important role of education in promoting understanding and cooperation on a global scale, further strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Germany.

Earlier, on the morning of January 23, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Büdenbender arrived in Hanoi, starting an official state visit to Vietnam on January 23-24, at the invitation of President Vo Van Thuong and his wife. President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has visited Vietnam twice (in March 2008 as Foreign Minister and in October 2016 as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister). He has made many contributions to the relationship between the two countries, and is interested in the development and integration of the Vietnamese community in Germany.
