Pezeshkian emphasized, "We will pursue constructive interaction with the world based on dignity, intelligence, and wisdom." His victory raised hopes for improved Iranian relations with the West and a reduction in nuclear tensions.

However, he took office amidst escalating tensions in the Middle East, with conflicts between Israel and Hamas, as well as Hezbollah in Lebanon. Iran accused the US of supporting Israel's actions in Gaza.
At his inauguration, Pezeshkian criticized: "Those who supply weapons to kill children cannot teach Muslims about humanity."
Pezeshkian is expected to announce his cabinet within two weeks, replacing hardline leader Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash in May.
As the supreme authority, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has the final say on all national matters, including foreign policy and nuclear issues. He also approves Pezeshkian's choices for key cabinet positions such as foreign minister, oil minister, and intelligence minister.
Pezeshkian faces Western pressure over Iran's nuclear program and the task of lifting US sanctions. Indirect negotiations with Washington have stalled since 2022.
He declared: "My government will never succumb to bullying and pressure... and the Iranian people should be respected."
