Speaking before world leaders and business leaders, President Trump stated that both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Zelenskyy are now at a point where they can reach a consensus to end the war.
Mr. Trump shared, "I think I can say that we're pretty close," and further emphasized the urgency of negotiations: "I believe they are now at a point where they can come together and reach an agreement."

Previously, President Trump admitted he had hoped to negotiate a deal sooner, but the "unusual animosity" between the Russian and Ukrainian leaders was a major obstacle. Last week, he even called Zelenskyy the main impediment to reaching an agreement, but now he believes Washington is very close to successfully brokering a ceasefire.
In an effort to promote global peace, President Trump also introduced an initiative called the "Peace Council." He said that Russia had accepted the invitation to join; however, Putin clarified that Moscow was still studying the proposal and would respond later.
Regarding the funding for this council, Russia has stated its readiness to contribute $1 billion from its frozen assets. However, this plan is certain to face strong opposition from Ukraine, as the Kyiv government insists it needs those assets for post-war reconstruction.
