According to the TASS news agency, speaking at an event organized by Yle television, Stubb said that he did not rule out the possibility that Europe would “one way or another” reopen the channel of dialogue with Russia as early as 2026, although the specific timing could not yet be determined.
President Stubb said in response to a question from the audience, "I can imagine Europe engaging in dialogue with Russia in one way or another this year. However, it is not yet possible to say when that will happen."
When asked about the possibility of acting as a mediator in potential contacts between Europe and Moscow, the Finnish president said that if offered, he “would likely find it difficult to refuse.”

Some Western media outlets had previously mentioned Stubb as one of the figures who could play a mediating role in potential dialogue channels between Europe and Russia. However, the Russian side reacted cautiously to these assessments.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova once stated that Stubb belonged to a group of hardline Western politicians who often used language critical of Russia in their public statements.
Currently, there is no official information about the establishment of any new direct dialogue channels between Russia and European countries in the near future. However, recent statements from some European leaders suggest that this issue is still being discussed amidst the continuing complex security situation and foreign relations in Europe.
