This is President Emmanuel Macron's first visit to Vietnam.
During General Secretary To Lam 's visit to France last October, the two countries announced the establishment of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. France is the first country in the European Union (EU) to have a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam.
Vietnam and France have upgraded their relations to the highest level in diplomatic relations, contributing to strengthening trust and opening up new opportunities for development cooperation in both breadth and depth in all fields in the future; at the same time, enhancing Vietnam's voice and contributions in international forums and events.

France has always been one of Vietnam's leading partners in Europe as well as in the world. France values Vietnam's position in the region as well as in the strategies and policies that France is implementing in Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific region.
Vietnam and France are increasingly becoming companions and trusted partners, sharing many development and cooperation orientations.
The French President is sympathetic to Vietnam and loves Vietnamese cuisine. He welcomed General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on an official visit to France in March 2018; Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on an official visit to France in November 2021; and General Secretary To Lam on an official visit to France in October 2024.
France is Vietnam's fifth largest European trading partner, with trade turnover in 2024 reaching 5.42 billion USD, an increase of 12.9% compared to 2023 (4.81 billion USD).
France ranks 16th out of 147 countries and territories investing in Vietnam with 700 valid investment projects, total registered investment capital reaching 3.95 billion USD. Vietnam has 20 investment projects in France with total registered capital reaching 38.93 million USD.
France is also the leading bilateral European ODA donor to Vietnam and Vietnam ranks second among countries receiving French ODA. From 1993-2022, it provided and lent 16.7 billion EURO; an average of 100 million EURO/year, focusing on the fields of infrastructure, technology transfer, agriculture, green industry and finance...
