Speaking on Russian television on June 26, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the promise he made during negotiations to resolve the crisis would remain. According to Putin, soldiers from the private military company Wagner could sign contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense or other security agencies, return home, or transfer to neighboring Belarus.

"You have the opportunity to sign contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense and other law enforcement agencies, or return to your family and friends. Anyone who wants to can come to Belarus," Putin said.

"Most of the fighters and commanders of the Wagner Group were also patriotic Russians, dedicated to the people and Russia. They proved this with their bravery on the battlefield," Putin said.

"Those who organized the uprising used them against their brothers and comrades – those who fought side-by-side for the interests and future of the country," Putin added.

Russian leaders thanked the Wagner soldiers and commanders who "stood at the last line" and prevented "fratricide."

Wagner launched a major coup in Russia overnight, seizing control of numerous military and administrative sites in Rostov-on-Don, the capital of Rostov Oblast, on the morning of June 24, and taking control of the headquarters of the Southern Military District.

Wagner then advanced into the cities of Voronezh and Lipetsk, prompting Russia to launch an anti-terrorism operation there in response. Prigozhin said that Wagner forces were at times about 200 km from the Russian capital.

However, the Wagner group later confirmed the cancellation of the order to advance on Moscow. Accordingly, on June 24, commander Yevgeny Prigozhin stated that the Wagner mercenary group had "returned to its field camps."

Earlier, the Belarusian President's office announced that Alexander Lukashenko had successfully negotiated with the leader Prigozhin.

"Yevgeny Prigozhin has accepted President Alexander Lukashenko's proposal to stop the Wagner Group rebellion and take further steps to reduce tensions between the two sides," a statement from the Belarusian President's Office said.

The Kremlin also revealed details of the agreement with Wagner. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Wagner soldiers would not be prosecuted given their efforts on the front lines of the Ukrainian conflict. Peskov explained that President Vladimir Putin " always respects their achievements."
