Dong Hoi City: Creating motivation to help the poor rise up.

(QBĐT) - Along with creating jobs and sustainable livelihoods to help the poor and near-poor improve their quality of life, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dong Hoi City has made efforts to build "Great Solidarity" houses. These new houses, filled with community love, and livelihood support activities have become a solid foundation, creating positive motivation for the poor to have the opportunity to rise in life, contributing to achieving the city's economic restructuring goals and the movement "The whole country joins hands for the poor - No one left behind".

As one of the communes/wards with the highest number of households receiving support in 2024, the Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nghia Ninh commune, Tran Thi Dung, stated that in recent years, through policies and innovative and concrete actions, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city has paid special attention to social welfare for the poor. In particular, entering 2025, implementing the key program, the construction of housing and support for production livelihoods for poor households has been promptly carried out by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city. Nghia Ninh commune received support for 4 livelihood projects and 1 house for a poor household.
Based on this, the commune's Fatherland Front, in coordination with mass organizations, mobilized and contributed labor to complete the "Great Solidarity" house; creating conditions for poor households to access livestock and crop farming techniques so that poor households have more motivation to produce effectively, increase income, improve living standards, and integrate into the community sooner. This contributes to a comprehensive reduction of poverty in the locality.

The mass organizations of Duc Ninh Dong ward and Dong Hoi city supported the construction of a "Great Solidarity" house for Mr. Hoang Van Khan, residing in Diem Thuong residential area.
In Duc Ninh Dong ward, the Fatherland Front and mass organizations recently started the construction of a "Great Solidarity" house for Mr. Hoang Van Khan (born in 1979, residing in Diem Thuong residential area). "Mr. Khan is a single man, suffering from illness and unable to work, relying on his brother for a long time. The newly built house, over 55 square meters, has a total support cost of 114 million VND from various contributions. The ward's youth union members are ready to contribute labor to reduce construction costs and complete the house quickly, ensuring Mr. Hoang Van Khan's stable life. Currently, there is another poor household in the ward eligible for the 'Great Solidarity' house construction support program, but the procedures are not yet complete. Therefore, the ward's Fatherland Front is trying to coordinate and urge this case to have a new house and a stable life soon," shared Bui Thi Thu Ha, Chairwoman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Duc Ninh Dong ward.
As one of the nine disadvantaged households in Bac Ly ward receiving livelihood support in 2025, Ms. Hoang Thi Ha from residential group 12 could not hide her emotion, joy, and gratitude upon receiving the financial assistance. Ms. Ha said that with the money, she will use it to increase production, grow more vegetables, and increase the number of livestock to develop her family's economy , stabilize and improve her living standards.
To date, eight households in the city have begun construction or renovation of "Great Solidarity" houses (six new constructions and two renovations). Each household building a new house receives 50 million VND in support from the City's Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee; households renovating their houses receive 25 million VND. Nine poor households have also received livelihood support of 5 million VND each; the total amount of support provided in this phase is nearly 400 million VND.
In an interview with us, the Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dong Hoi City, Nguyen Thi My Loi, stated: Leveraging the strength of national unity in caring for and assisting poor and near-poor households facing housing difficulties, contributing to the effective implementation of the "Nationwide Solidarity for the Poor - Leaving No One Behind" movement and the "National Unity for Building New Rural Areas and Civilized Urban Areas" campaign, Dong Hoi City has mobilized numerous resources to focus on construction and completion of "Great Unity" houses and livelihood support for poor households by 2025. Through this, the city strives to achieve and surpass the annual sustainable poverty reduction targets, aiming for a city with no poor or near-poor households.
Accordingly, to help poor and near-poor households build and repair dilapidated and severely damaged houses, while simultaneously promoting production development, creating jobs, increasing income, and improving the lives of poor and near-poor households to gradually overcome difficulties, since the beginning of 2025, the Fatherland Front at all levels in the city has conducted a review and assessment of each household. Through the survey, the entire city has 9 poor households receiving livelihood support, and 15 poor and near-poor households receiving support for building and repairing "Great Solidarity" houses (including 13 households building new houses and 2 households repairing existing ones).
“In less than three months, many ‘Great Solidarity’ houses have been repaired and newly built in the city, creating a significant ripple effect and strengthening confidence among officials, Party members, and all strata of the people. To date, the number of policy-beneficiary households eligible for housing support in the city has been relatively stable. In the first quarter of 2025 alone, the city has implemented over 50% of the year's support program. In the coming time, the city will continue to mobilize resources to support the completion of the construction of ‘Great Solidarity’ houses so that all poor and near-poor households in the area can have stable housing,” Ms. Nguyen Thi My Loi further informed.
