The above content is included in the draft to amend and supplement a number of articles of the regulations on national excellent student selection exams, recently announced by the Ministry of Education and Training .
Accordingly, from the 2025-2026 school year, each province or city that does not carry out arrangements or mergers will be allowed to register a maximum of 10 candidates for the team for each subject, while Hanoi will be allowed to register a maximum of 20 candidates.
For provinces and cities implementing administrative unit arrangement, there will be separate quotas, each subject will be sent from 20-30 candidates, Ho Chi Minh City alone will be sent 40 candidates.
"This regulation aims to avoid disruption and ensure the rights of candidates," the Ministry of Education and Training emphasized.
Details of the maximum number of candidates for each national excellent student team of each subject in 23 provinces and cities after the merger are as follows:

In the 2024-2025 school year, the whole country has 6,482 candidates registered to take the national high school excellent student exam from 68 units (63 provinces, cities and 5 universities), an increase of 663 candidates compared to the 2023-2024 school year. Candidates are selected to participate in 13 subjects including: Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics, Literature, History, Geography, English, Russian, French, Chinese, Japanese.
As a result, the examination board selected 3,803 prize winners, accounting for 58.68% of the total number of candidates. Among the 63 old provinces and cities, Hanoi still leads with 200 prize winners, followed by Ho Chi Minh City with 166 prizes and Hai Phong with 102 prizes.
