In the new school year 2025-2026, Ho Chi Minh City is expected to have more than 2.5 million students, an increase of nearly 40,000 students compared to the previous school year. To meet the demand, the City has put into use 1,434 new classrooms with a total cost of over VND4,500 billion.
This information was shared at the conference to summarize the 2024-2025 school year and deploy tasks for the 2025-2026 school year organized by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on August 27.
Determining the theme of the new school year “Maintaining discipline, inspiring creativity, boldly making breakthroughs, aiming at the goal of developing Ho Chi Minh City’s education ,” the city’s education sector focuses on perfecting institutions, enhancing the effectiveness of state management of education; innovating school governance, granting autonomy to public educational institutions; ensuring equality in access to quality education.
The industry is standardizing and developing the team of teachers and managers; building a model of "happy school" to meet the requirements of comprehensive innovation.
Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council Vo Van Minh emphasized that the education sector needs to closely follow the direction of the Ministry of Education and Training , and implement the roadmap of the city's breakthrough education projects. The focus is on equipping students with international integration skills, promoting the application of information technology in management, teaching and learning; and effectively exploiting the "Ho Chi Minh Cultural Space" at educational institutions.
The industry needs to research and propose solutions for training and fostering staff in line with practical needs; ensure the structure, quantity and quality of teachers; advise on policies to attract, create resources and support staff so that they can work with peace of mind.
Permanent Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong said that the City needs to continue reviewing facilities, ensuring the quality of teaching and learning services; strengthening the teaching staff; innovating teaching and learning methods, focusing on global citizenship education; and strictly managing non-public facilities. The locality effectively implements the Politburo's Resolution on breakthroughs in education and training development.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, in the 2024-2025 school year, the City will effectively maintain student assessment programs according to international standards; pioneer the introduction of international English and IT certificates into teaching; implement elective English teaching from grade 1 and prepare for the Project "Gradually making English the second language in schools."
Digital transformation has been promoted, with 100% of localities implementing online primary school enrollment. The education information map system (GIS) has been applied to route and optimize the school network in densely populated areas. Thanks to these efforts, the high school graduation rate in 2025 reached 99.86%, ranking 3rd in the country in terms of average scores in all subjects.
On this occasion, 15 outstanding collectives and 57 individuals in the 2019-2024 period received Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister. Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee awarded Emulation Flags to 19 leading collectives in the emulation blocks; awarded the title of Excellent Labor Collective for the 2024-2025 school year to 93 units.
