According to research by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, the high-speed route (with few intersections and interruptions) connecting Long Thanh airport starts at Nguyen Huu Tho Street (North-South axis), Nha Be District, Ho Chi Minh City; ends at the intersection of Lien Cang Street, Nhon Trach District, Dong Nai Province.
Shorten time to Long Thanh airport
The project route starts at Nguyen Huu Tho Street, going East, connecting to Hoang Quoc Viet Street to Dao Tri Street, crossing Dong Nai River and connecting to Lien Cang Street and then connecting to 25C Street (Nhon Trach, Dong Nai).
The project is about 16.7km long, with 6 lanes for motor vehicles and 2 lanes for non-motor vehicles, with a total preliminary investment of about 21,484 billion VND.
According to the Department of Transport and Public Works, in addition to the gateway, beltway, and expressway projects being implemented, the city is researching the construction of a network of about 10 main high-speed routes (with few interruptions and few intersections) connecting the center with inter-regional roads.
This is a very new idea that has been researched and proposed by the transport sector and has now been approved by the Prime Minister in the planning of Ho Chi Minh City for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050 and included in the general planning adjustment project. The high-speed main axis road can be built above ground, below ground, underground or combined depending on the actual situation.
The Phu My 2 expressway will, together with the elevated routes of Nguyen Huu Tho Street (HCMC) and 25C Street (Dong Nai), create a traffic axis connecting Tan Son Nhat Airport and Long Thanh Airport.
The route also connects the South Saigon urban area and Nhon Trach new city, creating new development momentum, attracting investment, and promoting regional economic growth.

At a recent working session, leaders of Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai Province also discussed and agreed on the next procedures to assign the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee as the governing body to organize the project investment implementation according to regulations. The project is targeted to have the investment policy approved in the fourth quarter of 2025, and start construction in 2027.
Promoting connection from Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh airport
Regarding the connection between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai, it is expected that the two localities will establish a joint steering committee to speed up the implementation of the projects. Regarding roads, the two localities have determined to focus resources on quickly building three projects: Phu My 2 bridge and road, Cat Lai bridge and Dong Nai 2 bridge.
At the same time, railway connections are also being accelerated. In particular, the HCMC metro line No. 1 will be extended to Trang Bom and Dong Nai province is currently preparing a pre-feasibility study report.
Regarding the railway connecting Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh airport, the city has proposed to add it to the list of projects that are subject to special mechanisms, especially Resolution 188 of the National Assembly on urban railway development in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
To increase connectivity with Long Thanh airport when it comes into operation, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has proposed opening two new connecting bus routes, including the Saigon bus station - Long Thanh airport route and the Tan Son Nhat airport - Long Thanh airport route.
The Department will continue to coordinate with the Department of Construction of Dong Nai province to research, review and supplement the network of connecting routes, in accordance with the situation of provincial mergers and the formation of new development areas.
In addition to roads and railways, people can also go to the city center by high-speed boat to Long Thanh airport.
It is expected that in May 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport will collect opinions from relevant departments and agencies, synthesize and submit to the City People's Committee to establish a working group, and invite businesses to participate in exploiting the high-speed ferry route from Bach Dang wharf (District 1) to SwanBay marina (Nhon Trach, Dong Nai).
