After listening to the opinions of parents and considering the needs of the authorities, Ho Chi Minh City has decided to extend the Lunar New Year holiday by two days compared to the previously scheduled holiday for 2025.

Over 1.7 million students in Ho Chi Minh City will have an 11-day Lunar New Year holiday in 2025.

On the afternoon of December 12th, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee issued a document agreeing with the proposal from the Department of Education and Training to extend the Lunar New Year holiday for students in 2025.

Accordingly, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee approved the proposal of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, agreeing to adjust the Lunar New Year holiday schedule in 2025 for preschool , general education, and continuing education.

Specifically, the Lunar New Year holiday for students will be from January 23rd to February 2nd, 2025 (i.e., from the 24th day of the 12th lunar month to the 5th day of the 1st lunar month). This means students will have 11 days off, two days longer than the previous holiday schedule issued at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year.

It is known that although the Tet holiday period has been extended by 2 days, it is still shorter than in recent years (which ranged from 12 to 16 days).

Previously, the Lunar New Year holiday for 1.7 million preschool, primary, secondary, and high school students in Ho Chi Minh City in 2025 was scheduled to begin on January 25, 2025 (26th day of the 12th lunar month) and end on February 2, 2025 (5th day of the 1st lunar month).

This means that students in Ho Chi Minh City will have a total of 9 days off for Tet (Lunar New Year). However, many parents and students believe that this holiday period is too short.

Many people are hoping for longer holidays for students, especially parents from distant hometowns who want to bring their children home for Tet.
