The working delegation of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recently had a working session with the Department of Sports and Physical Training, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and the Department of Culture and Sports on organizing the 10th National Sports Festival in 2026.
In December 2023, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee submitted a proposal to the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee and the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee on the project to host the 2026 National Sports Festival. Accordingly, Ho Chi Minh City is the main host; 5 localities, namely Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Tien Giang and Binh Phuoc, will jointly organize some competitions of the festival.
For the first time in 20 years, Ho Chi Minh City will host the National Sports Festival - the country's leading sporting event, with over 15,000 athletes from provinces, cities and sectors expected to participate. Therefore, preparations must be meticulous and thoughtful for the successful hosting.
According to the plan, Ho Chi Minh City will invest more than 1,000 billion VND to repair and upgrade facilities to serve the congress. From the end of 2024, projects to repair and upgrade Phu Tho Sports Stadium, Phu Tho Sports Training Center, Hoa Lu Stadium, Phu Tho Swimming and Diving Club will start construction, in addition to building a new training center for talented athletes at Hoa Lu Sports Center.
The repair and upgrade of this group of works will be completed in 2025. Some districts are also repairing and upgrading facilities and accommodation to best serve the congress. The Thong Nhat Stadium renovation project will be postponed to the end of 2025 due to many additional items and changes in investment policies.

The draft proposal to host the 2026 National Sports Festival submitted by Ho Chi Minh City has about 45-46 sports and sub-sports in the competition program, divided into 3 groups. Group 1 is the sports in the Olympic competition program; Group 2 is the sports in the ASIAD and SEA Games competition programs; Group 3 is other sports.
During the above-mentioned working trip, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong and the delegation of officials from the Department of Physical Training and Sports surveyed and inspected in detail a number of competition venues. Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong highly appreciated the timely, proactive and active preparation of Ho Chi Minh City. The fact that Ho Chi Minh City hosted the congress has a special significance, creating a big step forward for the city's sports, contributing more to Vietnamese sports.
Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Tran Thi Dieu Thuy said that the 2026 National Sports Festival is considered an important event. Therefore, the city is ready to create all conditions, as well as coordinate to organize carefully, from facilities to technology, logistics... This is also considered an activity in response to the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day.
