Thanks to proper seasonal planting, the 2023-2024 winter-spring rice crop in Ham Thuan Bac district is now entering its peak harvesting stage. Currently, farmers in the district have finished harvesting over 7,355 hectares, accounting for 91.2% of the planted area.
According to expert assessments, rice yields in this year's winter-spring crop are stable compared to last year, averaging approximately 63.5 quintals/hectare. Notably, in areas harvested later, rice yields are 1-2 quintals/hectare higher than in areas harvested early, with some localities even exceeding 5 quintals/hectare. For example, in Thuan Minh commune, the average yield at the beginning of the harvest was about 65 quintals/hectare, reaching 70 quintals/hectare during peak harvest; in Ham Phu commune, the yield at the beginning of the harvest was 62 quintals/hectare, and currently it is 64 quintals/hectare…
Favorable weather conditions, low pest and disease outbreaks, and reliable irrigation are the reasons for the increase in rice yield. In addition, farmers' boldness in introducing new rice varieties such as ST24, OM18, OM5451, and Dai Thom 8, along with the application of scientific and technological advancements in cultivation, are also factors contributing to improved rice yields…
Currently, in some harvested areas, farmers are plowing and drying the soil, waiting for the district's planting schedule to sow and plant the 2024 summer-autumn rice crop.
