Previously, the rocky, hilly land owned by Mr. Bay's family was almost unsuitable for growing anything. After researching different plant varieties and soil types, Mr. Bay realized that lychee and longan trees could be suitable for cultivation on rocky soil. In 2016, Mr. Bay discussed with his wife the idea of buying lychee seedlings of the "u hong" and "u trung" varieties to plant experimentally.
Thanks to the hard work of the farmers, after 3 years of planting and caring for the trees, Mr. Bay's lychee orchard has yielded its first sweet fruits. The lychees have thick flesh, a sweet taste, and are of quality comparable to those grown in the northern provinces, attracting traders who come directly to the orchard to buy them at high prices.
The initial success with lychee trees encouraged Mr. Bay and his wife to boldly invest and expand their cultivation by planting an additional 700 T6 longan trees on 2 hectares of land in 2020. Mr. Bay shared: “The T6 longan variety has many advantages such as: beautiful, large, round, juicy, sweet and fragrant fruit, so consumers really like it, making sales very easy. In addition, the trees can bear fruit as desired, allowing for multiple harvests throughout the year, thereby increasing the family's income.”

To ensure their orchard thrives, Mr. and Mrs. Bay pay close attention to every step in the care process. Because their orchard is located on rocky, hilly land with a slope, fertilizer is easily washed away, so he invested in an automatic sprinkler irrigation system to maintain a consistent water supply; they also apply organic fertilizer 3-4 times a year to ensure the plants receive sufficient nutrients.
Thanks to this, the lychee and longan orchards yielded higher harvests each year than the previous year. In 2024, Mr. Bay's family harvested 30 tons of lychees and 20 tons of longans. Traders came directly to the orchard to harvest and buy the fruit at an average price of 27,000 - 28,000 VND/kg. His family earned over 1 billion VND from the fruit orchard.
Besides developing their family's economy , Mr. Bay and Ms. Nhan are always ready to share their experience and techniques in planting, caring for, and selecting plant varieties with local farmers, encouraging them to develop their economy and achieve legitimate wealth. Mr. Bay harbors the intention of expanding the area of lychee and longan cultivation, and connecting with neighboring growers to establish a cooperative for more sustainable development from these crops.
