Farmers in Yen Bai actively head to the fields to sow and plant spring rice.
Yen Bai has basically completed planting the spring rice crop.
For the 2025 winter-spring crop season, Tram Tau district will plant 1,572 hectares of rice, mainly using varieties such as Nhi Uu 838, Viet Lai 20, DS1, Dai Thom, Thien Uu 8… and a portion of local glutinous rice varieties, striving for an average yield of 51.6 quintals/hectare. Currently, the rice is entering the vigorous tillering stage. To ensure the entire rice crop grows and develops well, achieving the targeted yield and production, Tram Tau district directs specialized departments and agencies to actively urge localities to do a good job of caring for the rice crop and controlling pests and diseases.
These days, across the fields from the lowlands to the highlands of the district, people are actively tending to their spring rice crop. In the fields of Ta Tau village, Pa Hu commune, Mr. Mua Thao Pao, who is applying nitrogen fertilizer and flooding his fields, said: "My family has 500 square meters of rice paddies. This spring, we are focusing on planting the hybrid rice variety Nhi Uu 838 and the purebred rice variety DS1. The rice was planted after the Lunar New Year, and the weather has been favorable, so it is growing and developing well. It is currently entering the tillering stage, so I regularly inspect the fields, regulate the water properly, and apply additional fertilizer, while also focusing on preventing and controlling pests and diseases that harm the rice."
In the fields of Luu 2 village, Hat Luu commune, Ms. Lo Thi Mac's family is weeding, catching golden apple snails, and using plastic sheeting to protect the fields from rat damage. With nearly 1,000 square meters of rice paddies, this winter-spring season, Ms. Mac's family is focusing on intensive cultivation of hybrid rice varieties such as DS1 and Dai Thom for commercial purposes.
Ms. Mac shared: "This year's weather has been erratic. The rice is entering the tillering stage, but the lack of rain has slowed its growth. Some of my family's rice fields are near residential areas, so there has been damage from rats. To ensure the entire rice crop grows well, in addition to focusing on pest and rodent control, I've added nitrogen fertilizer to promote faster growth."
In the 2025 winter-spring crop season, Hat Luu commune planted 225 hectares of rice on double-cropping paddy fields, mainly purebred varieties such as Thien Uu 8 and a portion of hybrid varieties such as Nhi Uu 838 and Dai Thom. At this time, the rice is entering the vigorous tillering stage. To ensure good growth and development of the rice crop, the commune directed specialized staff to coordinate with village heads to encourage farmers to actively inspect their fields, regulate irrigation water appropriately, and focus on pest and rodent control.
Mr. Lo Van Tiep, Chairman of the Hat Luu Commune People's Committee, said: "With the goal of striving for a rice yield of over 52 quintals/hectare, based on the document from the District Department of Agriculture and Environment regarding strengthening the investigation and monitoring of pests and diseases on rice crops in the 2024-2025 winter-spring season, the Commune People's Committee has issued a notice requesting village heads to coordinate with commune agricultural and forestry officials to focus on directing and guiding people in caring for and controlling pests and diseases affecting rice; paying attention to regulating irrigation water appropriately, ensuring that no area suffers from drought or water shortage. For areas with slow development, the commune directs farmers to focus on applying nitrogen and organic fertilizers to ensure good growth and development of the rice, guaranteeing the yield according to the plan."
According to a report from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tram Tau district, for the 2025 winter-spring crop, the entire rice area was sown and planted within the timeframe after the Lunar New Year. At this time, the rice is entering the vigorous tillering stage. However, the weather patterns in recent times have been quite unusual, significantly affecting the growth and development of the rice.
Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Head of the Agriculture and Environment Department of Tram Tau District, said: "The unit has issued Official Document No. 48 dated March 31, 2025, on strengthening the investigation and monitoring of pests on rice crops in the 2024-2025 winter-spring season. This document directs specialized staff and the District Agricultural Development Support and Service Center to closely coordinate with communes, towns, and functional units and departments to dredge canals and store water to ensure sufficient irrigation water. It also encourages farmers to focus on controlling harmful pests such as leaf-rolling caterpillars, brown planthoppers, stem borers, golden apple snails, and rodents to ensure that the entire area of spring rice in the district grows and develops favorably, guaranteeing the set targets, yields, and production."
At this time, the entire area of spring rice in Tram Tau district is growing and developing well. However, according to forecasts, in the coming period, erratic weather conditions and continued cold will create favorable conditions for some pests and diseases to develop and cause severe damage, potentially spreading widely. Therefore, specialized agencies in the district's agricultural sector continue to focus on directing farmers to actively inspect their fields, assess the level of pest and disease outbreaks, and take timely control measures to avoid complacency, ensuring good rice growth and development, and bringing high economic efficiency.
