The Italian Football Federation said it had accepted a request from Salernitana to postpone the return leg against Sampdoria scheduled for June 20. The decision was made after reviewing medical documents provided by Salernitana, as well as a criminal complaint the club had filed with the public prosecutor.
According to Salernitana's report, around 21 players and staff fell ill on the flight taking Salernitana home after the 0-2 defeat to Sampdoria in Genoa on June 15 in the first leg of the play-off final. These people were then hospitalized for treatment.
Salernitana CEO Maurizio Milan said: "We are really shocked by what has happened. Many players and staff, at the moment, cannot even go to the sports centre to continue training."
Salernitana also called for an investigation into "the causes of this serious and widespread incident".
Brescia were relegated to Serie C due to financial irregularities, and Sampdoria were given the chance to avoid relegation via a two-legged play-off. Salernitana have hinted at "conspiracies" surrounding the incident.
