On the morning of July 25, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Deputy Minister Ho An Phong had a meeting and worked with Mr. Ly Xuong Can, Vietnam Tourism Ambassador in Korea, on promoting the attraction of Korean tourists to Vietnam in the coming time.

At the ceremony, authorized by the Minister, Deputy Minister Ho An Phong awarded the Certificate of Merit from the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism to Mr. Ly Xuong Can, Vietnam Tourism Ambassador in Korea, for his outstanding achievements in contributing to the development of Vietnam's tourism, contributing to promoting tourism, cultural and economic exchanges between Vietnam and Korea in the period of 2017 - 2024.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Ly Xuong Can expressed his honor and sincere thanks to Minister Nguyen Van Hung, Deputy Minister Ho An Phong, leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and agencies under the Ministry for their support, attention and facilitation over the past time.

Ambassador Ly Xuong Can affirmed: "As the Vietnamese Tourism Ambassador to Korea for the 2024-2029 term, I will do my best to promote tourism between Vietnam and Korea. When this term ends, I will be 70 years old, even then, I still hope to continue to contribute to the development of Vietnamese tourism. I think that is my mission."

"Vietnam and Korea are each other's leading important partners, cooperating in many fields such as economy, trade, investment, culture, people-to-people exchange, international cooperation, and the highlight of which is tourism. The current development of the two countries is based on the foundation of a good relationship, the result of the hard work of the two peoples, generations and individuals. I am very pleased that the development of the cultural and tourism industry between the two countries has reached a new height. In recent years, Vietnam and Korea are two key markets with the number of tourist exchanges always growing" - Deputy Minister Ho An Phong said.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that Ambassador Ly Xuong Can's contributions have connected the "string" of past and present between the two nations, effectively contributing to the tourism relationship between Vietnam and Korea.

Sharing about Vietnam's development goals, the Deputy Minister said that Vietnam is currently on track for economic growth of over 8% in 2025 and aims to achieve double-digit growth in the 2026-2030 period.

In addition, Vietnam is also an emerging destination in the world for tourism and leads ASEAN in tourism growth rate. The goal in 2025 is to welcome 23-25 million international visitors. The growth of tourism will contribute to promoting other industries such as transportation, telecommunications, finance, etc., thereby contributing to the overall growth of the country.

"This is a more favorable time for development than ever before. The Vietnamese Government has many policies, built institutions, and created the best conditions for comprehensive cooperation between the two countries. Vietnam is certainly the best environment and destination for Korean people and businesses. And we always identify the Korean market as one of the key markets for development in the coming time," said Deputy Minister Ho An Phong.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh, Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, affirmed that Mr. Ly Xuong Can's re-appointment as Vietnam Tourism Ambassador in Korea as well as his honor of receiving a Certificate of Merit from the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism is clear evidence of his efforts and contributions in promoting cultural diplomacy and other fields between the two countries from 2017 to present.

Director Nguyen Trung Khanh said that in the tourism development strategy and planning of Vietnam's tourism system approved by the Prime Minister, the task of attracting international tourists, especially the Korean market, has always been highly appreciated and considered important. This task becomes even more feasible when the relationship between the two countries is a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, demonstrating deep and comprehensive cooperation in many fields.

Currently, the Government has exempted visas for Korean citizens with a maximum stay of 45 days. In addition, the number of routes and flight frequency between Korea and major cities in Vietnam is increasing.

"The Vietnam National Tourism Administration assesses that despite the high growth in tourist exchanges between the two sides, there is still a lot of room for development. To promote tourist exchanges in the coming time, the Vietnam National Tourism Administration will work with the Korea Tourism Organization, focusing on exchanging and providing information on tourist market demand, promoting and providing flight routes, providing information to create products to meet the needs of tourists on both sides" - Director Nguyen Trung Khanh said.

In particular, with the reappointment of Mr. Ly Xuong Can as Vietnam Tourism Ambassador in Korea, the establishment of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration Representative Office in Korea will be promoted, striving to become one of the typical offices of Vietnam abroad. From there, create momentum, become a bridge to provide information exchange between the two markets; Implement a number of programs to research the tourist market, specific tourism products of tourists; Support the organization of programs to promote Vietnamese tourism in Korea; Become a bridge connecting Vietnamese travel and accommodation businesses with Korean partners; Be the focal point of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to research and promote the establishment of the Vietnam Cultural Center in Korea...

"The Vietnam National Tourism Administration hopes that Ambassador Ly Xuong Can will closely coordinate with the Vietnam National Tourism Administration and units under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to successfully complete his tasks during the 2024-2029 term," said Director Nguyen Trung Khanh.

Mr. Ly Xuong Can was appointed as Vietnam Tourism Ambassador to Korea in 2017. In his position, the Ambassador has organized many cultural exchange activities and promoted Vietnam - Korea tourism, notably the establishment of the Vietnam Tourism Promotion Office in Korea and the development of a plan for a cashless electronic tourism payment project for Korean visitors. Immediately after its establishment, the Office has implemented many activities to promote communication and promote the country, culture and people of Vietnam to the Korean people.

In addition, Ambassador Ly Xuong Can has actively coordinated with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism in implementing tourism promotion programs, the Vietnam Tourism - Culture Festival in Korea, and activities to improve the quality of services for Korean tourists. Thereby, these activities contribute to promoting the strong growth of Korean tourists to Vietnam, becoming the leading market sending tourists to Vietnam.

In October 2024, Ambassador Ly Xuong Can was re-appointed as Vietnam Tourism Ambassador to Korea for the 2024-2029 term.
