The event of two national heroes Le Can and Nguyen Giao leading the insurgents to cleverly and bravely destroy the Vinh Tri district chief Ho Thien Thuc in November 1871 and the event of the two men using the "lure the tiger away from the mountain" strategy to destroy the Chief of Staff Alix Salicetti at Cau Vong on February 15, 1872. For the first time in the six provinces of Cochinchina, the people in plain clothes who had only been used to plowing and hoing all their lives, with rudimentary weapons lacking everything, but with their ardent patriotism and indomitable will to fight, they created a resounding victory, destroying the first French Chief of Staff in Vinh Long, causing a stir among the colonialists in Cochinchina at that time. The event had historical significance, strongly promoting the people's uprising movement, strengthening the belief in repelling the colonial invaders. The site also marks the crimes of the French colonialists and their henchmen on February 23, 1872, when the French colonialists sent troops to massacre hundreds of innocent people in the villages of Vinh Tri, around the location where Alix Salicetti was killed in retaliation for the defeat at Cau Vong.

The 1940 Southern Uprising was the first armed uprising in the province under the leadership of the Vinh Long Party Committee, bringing valuable lessons in the struggle for national liberation and creating a brilliant page in the revolutionary history of the Party Committee and the people of Vinh Long province, in which Vung Liem was one of the typical localities that won, causing a great resonance in the Southern region at that time. The entire district had a population of more than 40,000 people, nearly 18,500 people participated in the Southern Uprising, including the mark of comrade Vo Van Kiet. In 1940, comrade Vo Van Kiet was a member of the District Party Committee, Secretary of Trung Hiep commune, he participated in commanding a wing of the army to capture Bac Nuoc Xoay, contributing to the victory of the Southern Uprising in Vung Liem district.

The Nam Ky Uprising Monument Park was built at the site of the Nam Ky Uprising in 1940 to record the event and preserve the cradle of resistance, the pride of the revolutionary tradition of the homeland of Vung Liem; to propagate and educate about the indomitable spirit full of heroism and glorious memories in the history of fighting against foreign invaders of our ancestors with the content of the stele written by Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet.

This is a place that contributes to propagating and educating the younger generation about the heroic revolutionary struggle tradition of our ancestors, about the love for the homeland for today’s and future generations./.
