One of the most controversial fashion trends among K-pop idols today is the “exposed underwear” trend, intentionally revealing the waistband or bra straps as an outfit highlight. Although favored by many new generation idols, this style is facing a wave of criticism from the public.

From the stage, airport to social media, more and more idols are experimenting with this style. Both Sohee (RIIZE) and Asa (Babymonster) appeared in high-waisted pants that revealed their underwear, becoming a hot topic of discussion on forums. Not only Gen 5 idols like Tarzzan (Allday Project), but also famous names like Jennie (BlackPink) have pursued this style.

The trend of showing off underwear is widespread in Kpop.

Many artists choose a more subtle approach, like Giselle (aespa). However, whether bold or subtle, this trend still makes waves on social media because of its aesthetics.

The post compiling a series of photos of idols following this trend quickly attracted thousands of comments, most of which expressed discomfort and disgust:

“Can this be called fashion? It's really disgusting:, “Regardless of whether you're male or female, I can't understand this kind of underwear display", “So vulgar... I hate it so much", “This is definitely a trend from the Justin Bieber era, the dark ages of fashion. I didn't expect it to come back", “Calvin Klein's waistband is acceptable, but those other styles are not acceptable"...

Most netizens believe that this style is inelegant, easily misunderstood, and not suitable for the image of celebrities, especially idols with a large number of young fans. Some comments even likened it to “a revival of the fashion disaster of the early 2010s” and expressed concern if this trend continues to spread.

On the other hand, there are still opinions that fashion is always changing and needs space for experimentation. Breaking the limits and standards of dress is inevitable when idol culture is increasingly globalized. "I find it individualistic and rebellious, not everyone is confident enough to dress like that," one user commented.
