The videos "Seeing the old countryside" have been going viral on TikTok recently.

Recently on TikTok Vietnam, short videos of old houses and countryside scenes have been shared by many people. Along with the clip is the poster's touching description of past memories, accompanied by the background music of the song " Homeland" by musician Tran Tien, creating empathy. Simple videos like the above have attracted millions of views, creating a trend on the platform.

The way to review the past scene is also very simple. Users can use the dedicated tool Google Earth or the Street View section available on the Google Map app.

After launching the application, select the map type icon in the upper right corner of the screen, activate the Street View section. Here, the road segments with data will be highlighted in light blue. Users just need to determine the location they want to view, click to download the image.

In this mode, the software is split in half with the top half showing the street and the bottom half showing the graphic. It can be easily controlled by swiping to change the viewing angle, move back and forth, etc. To review past images, users select the time customization section at the bottom of the screen "View another day". Here, all past data of the area that was recorded will appear.

Depending on the route, the recorded information may only exist for the last 1-2 years. There are also central locations that have data for 7-10 years.

Street view images on Google Maps are recorded by specialized devices from Google or 3rd parties. It provides users with a detailed view of the real scene instead of a bird's-eye view like satellite images. When recording, the platform also automatically blurs people's faces, license plates, addresses, etc.

The content was spread during the period of administrative unit merger, creating nostalgic emotions in viewers. This is also part of the very popular psychological effect of nostalgia.

According to the University of Southampton, UK, nostalgia is a complex group of emotions related to thinking about the past. It is often triggered by encountering a familiar scent, sound or memento, easily appearing in conversations or when feeling lonely. In this effect, people often look at memories through rose-colored glasses. Therefore, they are more likely to feel emotional.
