Sowing seeds of knowledge on the new Gia Lai land
On the morning of July 1, at the headquarters of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee (Quy Nhon Ward), Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan had a meeting and worked with Professor Duncan Haldane - a famous theoretical physicist from Princeton University (USA), winner of the 2016 Nobel Prize in Physics.
Mr. Pham Anh Tuan's first activity as the new head of the Gia Lai provincial government was to receive and work with the 2016 Nobel Prize winner in Physics.
This is the first activity as the head of the new Gia Lai province - an administrative unit recently established on the basis of merging Binh Dinh and Gia Lai provinces.
Not only symbolic, the working session with Professor Haldane clearly demonstrates the vision of development based on knowledge and international cooperation. “ Science , technology, innovation and digital transformation will be strategic pillars in the new development phase of the province”, Mr. Pham Anh Tuan emphasized.
At the same time, he affirmed that the local government will continue to support the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE) in terms of mechanisms, policies, and budget to promote research and spread scientific values in the community. In order to promote the province's socio-economic development both in the short and long term in the spirit of Resolution 57 of the Politburo .
The new Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee also respectfully invited Professor Haldane to accompany ICISE for a long time, providing professional advice and proposing initiatives to develop quantum materials science - a field in which he is one of the world's pioneers.
The Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee invited Professor Haldane to accompany ICISE for a long time.
Professor Haldane expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and appreciated the specific commitments from the provincial government. He shared his hope that ICISE will become an international academic meeting place and a place to inspire science for the younger generation, especially through STEM outreach programs with students from Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
Connecting knowledge, the source of innovation
The reception with Professor Haldane was not an isolated event. It was a logical continuation of a series of actions that demonstrated Mr. Pham Anh Tuan's consistent management thinking: science must be treated as a foundation for development, not a diplomatic slogan.
As Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Pham Anh Tuan visited and worked with scientists at ICISE Center early in the morning.
Not long before, when he was Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Tuan had a special meeting at 6:30 a.m. at ICISE with Professor Tran Thanh Van - a veteran physicist, founder of the Vietnam Rencontres du Vietnam and ICISE Center.
The meeting took place on the Quy Nhon beach in a rare time frame at the leadership level, but was very profound. The two sides discussed many major directions for local science: developing space technology, upgrading the IFIRSE Institute, attracting global intellectuals and training young research resources...
That very day, the discussion contents were concretized into directive conclusions and action plans. An early meeting, but opened up a long-term vision.
Both meetings, one with Professor Tran Thanh Van and the other with Professor Duncan Haldane, revolved around the same idea: science is not outside of management, but at the heart of policy. It is worth noting that the local government has not stopped at words, but has begun to turn that vision into practical action.
Gia Lai has just followed the Binh Dinh model, making efforts to create conditions for intellectuals to contribute ideas, support institutions, and promote the application of science to serve development. This is a positive signal for researchers, the high-tech business community, deep-tech startups, and the young generation looking for a deep academic environment.
An early morning meeting, but one that opens up the horizon.
From a working session at 6:30 a.m. in Quy Nhon City to a meeting with Professor Nobel also in Quy Nhon, but now a ward of the new Gia Lai province, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan is gradually establishing a new management standard: leading with knowledge, connecting with trust and acting with a scientific spirit.
Not every place has Nobel scientists. But not every place has leaders who understand that, if you want to go far and sustainably, you have to start from the roots of knowledge.
