The strong increase in coffee prices in the world market last week was driven by many positive factors. At the end of the week, Arabica coffee increased by 10.4% and Robusta coffee increased by 18%.
News of frost in Brazil earlier this week has raised concerns about supply, although initial damage is thought to be minimal. In addition, a sharp drop in Brazilian coffee exports in July, with Robusta in particular down 49% year-on-year, has raised concerns about supply shortages. In Vietnam, supplies are also tightening ahead of the new harvest.
Short covering after a sharp sell-off in May-July helped push Robusta prices higher, while a drop in Arabica and Robusta inventories at ICE warehouses to multi-month lows also added to the upward pressure.

The market is watching developments in the tariff negotiations between the US and Brazil. If the Brazilian government begins to intervene in the market by buying coffee, this could impact the price differential between the markets. In particular, the signal that the US Federal Reserve (FED) is likely to cut interest rates in September 2025 has increased the attractiveness of risky assets such as coffee due to the cheaper cost of capital.
With strong support factors from both supply and demand, speculation and macroeconomic policies, coffee prices are forecast to continue to increase in the coming time, although there may be short-term adjustments. Investors and businesses need to closely monitor market developments to make appropriate decisions.
