Young people tell young people's love stories

As a continuation of previous works, young author Huy Hai (photo, born in 1994, real name Pham Dinh Thang) has just released the short story collection How Long Will It Be Sad (Dan Tri Publishing House), bringing simple, familiar love stories of young people.

Huy Hai debuted in the literary world with two short story collections: Already Know There Will Be Yesterday (Vietnamese Women Publishing House) and Looking for Each Other in the City (Kim Dong Publishing House) in 2020. After that, he released the long stories Live Again (Literature Publishing House, 2022), Talking Eyes (Kim Dong Publishing House, 2023) and this year, he added the short story collection Sad Like That, Who Knows When?. Having 5 books in 5 years is a number that not every young writer can achieve, especially since Huy Hai's work is not related to literature, so maintaining his passion is a great effort for him.

“Currently, I am an office worker for a transportation company. I often take advantage of my free time or days off to sit down and read a book or write something,” Huy Hai shared.

Recalling his relationship with literature, Huy Hai said that since his junior high school days, he often went to the library to read and borrow books. Gradually, he not only read and borrowed books to study, but also started to read books for entertainment and relaxation. Like "slow and steady rain", from reading, he began to nurture the idea of telling his own stories. Then, short stories were born one after another, published in student newspapers, becoming a familiar pen of Muc Tim. "Literature is a surprising relationship but also a long journey that I have persistently pursued. Therefore, for me, literature is not simply reading to relax, writing to share, but also a part of my life", Huy Hai expressed.

The short story collection Sadness Like That, Who Knows When , is a return to the short story genre, continuing to tell the love stories of young people that Huy Hai has shaped for himself since entering the literary world. With 16 short stories, Huy Hai depicts the image of young people in contemporary life: they are absorbed in studying, working part-time and do not forget to love! The love of the twenties is as beautiful as the first rains of the season, but somewhere there is still sadness mixed in. Huy Hai gently touches on that sadness through stories recorded in different spaces and times, like words of comfort, caress... so that the sadness can be quickly soothed.

Although he focuses on writing works for adults, Huy Hai always has a special love for children's literature, as evidenced by the long story Talking Eyes. At the end of August this year, he released his second long story titled The Sunbathing Cat on the Porch, a work in the fairy tale genre with the main character being the Gray Ash Cat. According to Huy Hai, in addition to the target audience of young people, children's literature is also his great passion. When writing for children, he not only finds the "child inside" himself, but also a way to slow down, observe, listen... and love children more, especially children with special circumstances and fates.
