The Vietnamese women's team chose to play cautiously in the match against Australia, with a 5-man defense that stretched out deep, with only striker Huynh Nhu up front. Coach Mai Duc Chung's goal was to focus on a solid defense, then take advantage of the acceleration of Bich Thuy, Van Su, Huynh Nhu, Thanh Nha... to counterattack.

However, facing the overwhelming physical strength of the opponent, the Vietnamese women's team could not operate smoothly. The goal conceded in the 6th minute clearly showed the difference in stature between the two teams. Aideen Keane surpassed 2 Vietnamese central defenders and goalkeeper Kim Thanh to head the ball close to the goal after a cross from the right wing. Kim Thanh rushed out to support her teammate, but even with her arm, the 31-year-old goalkeeper still could not stop the opponent's fierce charge. Then, it was Leticia McKenna's turn to swing her leg to score from a distance in the 17th minute, in a situation where the Vietnamese women's defense had retreated very deep, leading to a gap in the second line.
Bich Thuy scored to shorten the score.

The Vietnamese women's team was not completely outclassed by Australia, as they also had opportunities, one of which came from Van Su's smart ball-winning move to pass across the field to Huynh Nhu facing the opponent's goal in the 20th minute. The move also demonstrated the tactics of the Vietnamese women's team when they tried to press and win the ball and then organize lightning-fast attacks. However, the inability to control the ball and coordinate properly (the Vietnamese women's team rarely passed more than 4 accurate passes in a row in the first half) in the face of the Australian team's ability to press and compete strongly made coach Mai Duc Chung's students completely exhausted.

Vietnam women's team determined to beat Thailand
The Vietnamese women's team played more aggressively in the second half, especially in one-on-one situations. Bich Thuy and her teammates did not hesitate to rush into the fight to gain control of the ball on every meter of grass. Thanks to that, the Australian women's team did not create many more opportunities, except for crosses from the two wings. Coach Mai Duc Chung continuously urged his players to run, change positions and expand the formation to find gaps in the Australian defense. The efforts of the Vietnamese girls were rewarded with a solo goal by Bich Thuy in the 88th minute. The "diamond girls" tried extremely hard, not giving up until the last seconds. Although they could not find an equalizer, this effort deserves recognition.
Similar to the 0-4 loss to the Philippines in the AFF Cup semi-finals 3 years ago, or the failures in the 2023 World Cup group stage, the difference in physique is still a big problem for the Vietnamese women's team. Coach Mai Duc Chung's students can control and overwhelm teams with weaker technical and tactical foundations. However, when facing opponents with good tactics, who are too fast and strong, the Vietnamese women's team always encounters difficulties. Hopefully, in the upcoming training sessions, the whole team can improve their physical strength and fighting ability, and at the same time discover new factors to create competitive motivation for the pillars.
