On the afternoon of December 14th, a serious landslide occurred on National Highway 6 in Phu Tho province, burying three people, causing traffic congestion, and posing a potential safety risk to vehicles traveling on this vital route.
In response to the emergency, the Vietnam Road Administration directed relevant units to mobilize maximum resources and personnel, giving the highest priority to rescue and recovery efforts and addressing the incident, in order to quickly ensure safe and smooth traffic flow.
According to a preliminary report from the Road Management Office I.1, the landslide occurred at 2:38 PM on December 14th. Immediately after the incident, authorities promptly arrived at the scene, implementing rescue and landslide mitigation plans. A 300-ton wheel loader and a 210-ton wheeled excavator were mobilized to focus on digging and clearing the debris. Road Construction Company 222 also reinforced the site with two additional 200-ton excavators and a workforce to expedite the remediation process.

To date, rescue forces have reached the location where the victim was riding the motorbike and are urgently deploying rescue measures to bring the victim out of the dangerous area. The estimated volume of landslide debris is over 1,000 cubic meters. Although not excessively large, due to the complex terrain and high slopes, simultaneously rescuing the victim and clearing the debris is proving difficult. Excavators have basically opened a temporary passage, but authorities have not yet allowed vehicles to pass through to ensure the absolute safety of rescue forces and road users.
Given the complex nature of the incident, the Vietnam Road Administration directed Road Management Area I, Road Management Office I.1, and Road Company 222 to concentrate maximum manpower and equipment at the scene; giving the highest priority to rescue efforts; organizing the clearing of debris according to a plan that ensures safety and prevents secondary landslides; and simultaneously deploying a complete system of signs, barriers, and security personnel throughout the incident response.
Present at the scene, Comrade Dinh Trung Thanh, Director of Road Management Area I, requested that units closely monitor the actual situation, constantly update information, mobilize maximum machinery and equipment, organize overtime work, and work continuously to quickly complete rescue and recovery efforts.
The comrade emphasized the need for strict adherence to labor safety regulations, resolutely refusing to allow traffic flow until safety conditions are met, in order to avoid accidents during the rescue operation.
Comrade Dinh Trung Thanh also directed the Road Management Office I.1 to closely coordinate with local functional forces in traffic diversion and regulation; promptly inform the public so they can proactively choose appropriate routes; and regularly report to the Vietnam Road Administration for timely guidance in handling emerging situations.
Currently, the authorities are remaining on the scene, coordinating closely to complete rescue and relief efforts and mitigate the consequences as quickly as possible.
After initial clearing and ensuring necessary safety conditions, National Highway 6 has been reopened to traffic for passenger cars and buses; other vehicles continue to be regulated and rerouted according to the implemented plan, ensuring traffic safety on the route.
