Folk knowledge about Ngoc Linh ginseng recognized as National Intangible Cultural Heritage

This Decision is issued based on the Law on Cultural Heritage, decrees guiding its implementation, as well as proposals from the People's Committee of Quang Nam province and the Department of Cultural Heritage.

Folk knowledge about Ngoc Linh ginseng is a treasure trove of valuable knowledge accumulated and passed down through many generations by ethnic minorities, especially the Xo Dang people in Nam Tra My district. This type of ginseng, also known as "hidden medicine", is known as a rare medicinal herb with very good healing and health-enhancing effects.

This folk knowledge includes techniques and experiences in exploiting, planting, caring for and processing Ngoc Linh ginseng. People have shifted from natural exploitation to planned cultivation, intensive investment, helping to increase economic value and improve life.

Currently, Ngoc Linh ginseng is grown in 7 communes of Nam Tra My district, with a total area of ​​about 1,650 hectares, attracting the participation of more than 1,500 households and 18 businesses registered to grow ginseng under the forest canopy.

The recognition of folk knowledge about Ngoc Linh ginseng as a national intangible cultural heritage not only aims to preserve and promote traditional cultural values ​​but also contributes to promoting sustainable socio-economic development for the highlands of Quang Nam.
