According to Yonhap news agency, on the evening of November 21, the South Korean military said North Korea launched an object that Pyongyang claimed was a spy satellite.
Earlier, on November 20, Kang Ho-pil, Director of Operations of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) of South Korea, warned North Korea to “immediately cease” preparations for its next military reconnaissance satellite launch and threatened to take “necessary measures” if the plan continues.

Kang Ho-pil stated, "If North Korea proceeds with its plan to launch a military spy satellite despite our warnings, our military will deploy necessary measures to protect the lives and safety of our people," but declined to provide details about these potential measures.
North Korea conducted two launches to put spy satellites into orbit in May and August of this year.
According to a United Nations Security Council resolution, North Korea is prohibited from using ballistic missile technology in any form or for any purpose.
