Pinball is back on Android for free
3D Pinball Space Cadet is not just a game, but also one of the icons associated with Windows XP, so much so that almost anyone who has ever used this operating system has tried it at least once. The developer who brought this 'return to childhood' to the Android gaming community is Kyle Sylvertre. He painstakingly used a decompiled version of Space Cadet Pinball's source code (shared by user k4zmu2a on GitHub) to recreate and publish the game on the Google Play Store. The Android version is smoothly optimized for touchscreens, with the left and right edges of the screen acting as flippers, while tapping the right edge activates the ball launcher.
The game is designed to run in portrait mode, creating a familiar feeling like a real pinball table. Notably, this version supports up to 18 different languages, integrates rankings through Google Play Games so that global players can compete, and has an extremely light capacity, less than 5 MB.
What's even better is that Kyle Sylvertre is making the game completely non-profit. There won't be any annoying ads or in-app purchases. The developer says he "just wants to see it on Android alongside the Google Play leaderboards." To ensure the fairness and integrity of the leaderboards, cheats are currently disabled. However, Kyle also hinted that they could return in the future, along with an option to turn off the leaderboards for those who just want to play for fun.
Regardless, the arrival of 3D Pinball Space Cadet on Android is certainly a welcome breath of nostalgia, bringing back fond memories for gamers who lived through the glory days of Windows XP in the early 2000s.
