Hot weather, fresh coconut price increases

In mid-April, the weather was hot, the price of fresh coconuts increased from 50,000 VND - 60,000 VND/dozen (12 fruits) last month to 70,000 VND - 80,000 VND/dozen.

Originating from Tan My Chanh commune (My Tho city), the area of Malay coconut (red coconut) cultivation has now spread to the communes in the Northwest of Cho Gao district, Go Cong Tay district and communes in My Tho city, Chau Thanh district, Cai Lay town, Cai Lay district, with an area of thousands of hectares, bringing good income to growers.

A long-time red coconut farmer in Binh Phong hamlet, Tan My Chanh commune said that on average, each hectare of coconut (1,000 ^m2 ) gives a monthly income of about 2 - 3 million VND, minus expenses and care, the profit is about 1.5 - 2 million VND.

Coconut care costs are low. Fertilization is only required once a month; 20 kg of NPK fertilizer is required for each hectare of coconut. However, growers must regularly water and spray pesticides on the coconuts.

Malaysian coconuts with abundant fruit and sweet water are favored by customers and are one of the main crops of farmers in the above mentioned regions.
