Zwayer, 43, is a veteran referee with over 685 senior professional matches under his belt, including many major games in the Champions League, Bundesliga and international tournaments.
Most recently, he refereed the second leg of the Champions League semi-final between Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.
English football fans also cannot forget Zwayer, when he refereed the Euro 2024 semi-final between the "Three Lions" and the Netherlands last summer.

UEFA's decision was controversial as Zwayer has a history of match-fixing scandals. In 2005, he was found to have accepted a £250 bribe from referee Robert Hoyzer in a case that shocked German football.
Although only banned for six months, Zwayer is still mentioned in debates about fairness in match management, especially after controversial decisions in big matches.
One of the recent high-profile incidents involving Zwayer was the Bundesliga match between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in 2021, where he controversially awarded a penalty for a handball by Mats Hummels.
After the match, Dortmund star Jude Bellingham made a scathing statement, recalling Zwayer's past: "You give the biggest game in Germany to a referee who has fixed matches. What do you expect?" The comment resulted in Bellingham being fined £34,000, and Zwayer demanding a personal apology from the young Englishman.
Despite his dark past, Zwayer is still trusted and highly regarded by UEFA for his expertise. The decision to appoint him for the upcoming all-English final shows that the European football body still considers him a referee with enough class and experience to officiate key matches.
The Europa League final between Spurs and Man Utd takes place at 2am on May 22 at San Mames Stadium in Bilbao (Spain).
