MLS teams are set to spend around $336 million in 2025, nearly double the record $188 million in 2024. This is a big step forward for the league, affirming its growing position in the world transfer market.
According to MLS, the $336 million figure makes the league the eighth highest-spending league in the world. This figure is also nearly double that of Liga MX, the top league in Mexico.
MLS teams broke transfer records three times in 2025. FC Cincinnati spent $16.3 million to sign Kévin Denkey from Cercle Brugge, surpassing the previous record of $16 million that Atlanta United spent on Thiago Almada in February 2022.
Two other notable deals were Atlanta United spending $22 million to recruit Emmanuel Latte Lath from Middlesbrough, and LAFC signing a record-breaking contract with Son Heung-min from Tottenham for a fee of $26 million .
Inter Miami, which features Messi, also made headlines with the loan signing of Rodrigo De Paul from Atletico Madrid. In addition, winger Mateo Silvetti also joined Inter Miami for an undisclosed fee.
Inter Miami is also the team with the highest total player valuation in MLS at present ( 101.84 million USD ).
