In the context of the global exhibition industry shifting strongly to Asia, Vietnam has emerged as a new and potential destination. The conference “Vietnam – Destination for the Future of Asian Exhibitions” held on August 29 in Hanoi clearly affirmed this direction, with the participation of leaders of ministries, experts and international partners.
Exhibitions – a driving force for economic and cultural development
In his opening speech, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong emphasized the key role of the exhibition industry in national development: “The exhibition and fair industry has become one of the important driving forces for economic growth, cultural exchange and international cooperation. This is a field that directly connects businesses, markets and consumers, and is also a bridge between knowledge, technology and creativity.”
According to the Deputy Minister, exhibitions are not only a channel for trade but also closely linked to the cultural, entertainment and tourism industries. International events are the place to spread cultural identity, attract investment, and contribute to promoting the country's image. He also said that in the coming period, the Ministry will focus on four orientations: developing exhibitions associated with the cultural and creative ecosystem; promoting tourism through international fairs; building modern exhibition centers such as VEC; and promoting public-private cooperation to position the brand "Vietnam - Asia's Exhibition Destination".
From an economic perspective, Mr. Vu Ba Phu - Director of the Department of Trade Promotion, Ministry of Industry and Trade - affirmed that exhibitions are an effective tool for Vietnamese enterprises to integrate deeply: "Trade fairs and exhibitions are direct and effective bridges between enterprises, between enterprises and customers. This is also the form of trade promotion with the fastest and most sustainable spread".
He said that thanks to the National Trade Promotion Program and the National Brand Program, thousands of businesses have had the opportunity to approach buyers, sign contracts and promote their products to the world. In that process, the Vietnam Exhibition Center (VEC) is considered a reliable partner, making an important contribution to the successful implementation of many national trade promotion events.
VEC – Vietnam's new symbol on the exhibition map
Built on a scale of over 900,000 m², the Vietnam Exhibition Center (VEC) is currently the largest exhibition complex in Southeast Asia, ranked in the Top 10 in the world. The highlight is the Kim Quy exhibition hall, inspired by the Kim Quy god of Co Loa, a symbol of wisdom and national identity.
According to Ms. Pham Thai Ha - CEO of VEC, this place is not only an event infrastructure, but also a door to bring Vietnam to the world: "If Vietnam is considered a market that is opening up many new opportunities, then VEC is the door to enter that market. VEC is a two-way bridge: connecting Vietnam to the world and bringing the world closer to Vietnam".
Since its inauguration, VEC has made a splash by organizing the National Achievements Exhibition with the theme “80 years of Independence - Freedom - Happiness”. Ms. Pham Thai Ha said that on the opening day of August 28, the attraction of the event exceeded expectations. Instead of opening at 1pm as planned, the Organizing Committee was forced to welcome guests early in the morning because of the large number of people. As a result, on the first day alone, the exhibition attracted more than 230,000 visitors, a record number showing the strong attraction of VEC as well as the public's special interest in the event.
Previously, VEC has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to organize large-scale entertainment events with tens of thousands of spectators. Major music festivals such as V Fest and V Concert have left a strong impression with their top artists and professional organization. In particular, most recently, the super event 8Wonder, which attracted 55,000 spectators, clearly affirmed VEC's capacity, infrastructure quality and coordination ability, making it a leading destination for both exhibitions and major international cultural and entertainment events.
To achieve this success, Ms. Ha emphasized four resonant factors: strong support from the Government, companionship from the business community, cooperation with international consulting partners and trust from consumers in the Vingroup ecosystem.
In the eyes of international experts, Vietnam is on the right track to becoming a new exhibition hub. Ms. Ramona Fischer from GL Events - a French global group specializing in events, conferences and exhibitions said: "For Hanoi and VEC to become the leading destination for international trade fairs, it is necessary to simultaneously promote key factors: convenient visa procedures, access to displayed goods, government support and a complete service ecosystem".
Ms. Fischer particularly appreciated the modern and flexible infrastructure of VEC, with the ability to organize both exhibitions and conferences in a modular manner. In addition, flexible financial policies, sustainable development practices, and security and logistics commitments will help Vietnam build lasting trust with international organizers.
Vietnam – Asia's emerging destination
From the perspective of management, trade promotion, infrastructure and international assessment, it can be seen that Vietnam possesses all the conditions to become the leading exhibition center in the region.
Deputy Minister Ho An Phong affirmed: “With the determination of the Government, the dynamism of the private sector, and the cooperation of international partners, Vietnam can absolutely become a leading exhibition destination in Asia in the near future.”
In the integration flow, the presence of VEC contributes to enhancing Vietnam’s position on the global exhibition map, opening up great opportunities to connect trade, culture and technology. From there, Vietnam confidently steps into the future as an “Asian exhibition destination” – a place where national identity and global trends intersect.
