Mikel Arteta faces many difficulties when facing Luis Enrique |
Ousmane Dembele scored after just four minutes at the Emirates Stadium last Tuesday, before Mikel Merino had a second-half equaliser ruled out for offside. Dembele's strike was his eighth Champions League goal this season, bettered only by Zlatan Ibrahimovic in a single campaign for PSG (10 in 2013/14), and gave Luis Enrique's side a clear advantage heading into the second leg. The Frenchman is fit and available for Wednesday night after suffering a thigh injury in London.
PSG have won three of their last four home games in the Champions League, scoring 14 goals in those three victories. However, they have also lost two games at the Parc des Princes this season, against Liverpool and Atlético Madrid. That means Arsenal still have a chance to turn things around, even if it won’t be easy.
Last weekend, coach Mikel Arteta caused controversy when he fielded a strong squad to play against Bournemouth in the Premier League. As a result, Arsenal still lost the match, while many important stars did not have time to rest. On the other hand, PSG only used their youth team to play against Strasbourg in Ligue 1 and their first team is fully fit for tonight's match.
Arsenal have won all four of their last four away games in the Champions League, but have never won five in the competition's history. In the quarter-finals, they stunned everyone by beating Real Madrid at the Bernabeu. A similar scenario would see the Gunners take the game into extra time or, worse, a penalty shootout. Now is the time for Mikel Arteta's men to show their mettle after a series of forgettable defeats in recent years.
