China has just put a superconducting quantum computer similar to the “Zuchongzhi 3.0” model into commercial use, marking an important step forward in the practical application of quantum computing.
The research team from China Telecom Quantum Group (CTQG) and QuantumCTek - two leading quantum companies based in Hefei city, Anhui province - have completed the system installation for this supercomputer.
Using the same chip as “Zuchongzhi 3.0” with 105 qubits and 182 coupled circuits, this supercomputer can perform complex quantum calculations at speeds millions of billions of times faster than today's most powerful supercomputer.
According to experts, quantum computing is considered an important technology in the new generation information revolution.
In March 2025, Chinese scientists Pan Jianwei, Zhu Xiaobo and Peng Chengzhi from the University of Science and Technology of China successfully built a superconducting quantum computer prototype “Zuchongzhi 3.0” with 105 qubits. This achievement once again broke the world record for quantum advantage.
“Quantum advantage” — also known as quantum computing supremacy — is the ability of a quantum computer to perform certain tasks significantly faster than the most advanced classical supercomputers.
Zhang Xinfang, an expert at CTQG, said that this quantum computer, which is considered to have “the strongest quantum advantage today,” will connect to a quantum cloud computing platform called “Tianyan” to serve users worldwide .
Since Tianyan officially went into operation in November 2023, the platform has recorded more than 37 million visits from users in more than 60 countries and processed more than 2 million experimental tasks./.
