Responding to a question about the situation in Cuba, spokesperson Guo Jiakun said that China opposes all coercive measures and unilateral sanctions that lack basis in international law, and is determined to support Cuba in defending its sovereignty and national security. Beijing called on Washington to immediately end the blockade and all other forms of pressure, in order to protect the right to survival and development of the Cuban people.

Against the backdrop of continued tensions between Cuba and the US, and the militarily and politically sensitive Caribbean region, China calls on all parties to exercise restraint, avoid escalating conflicts, and maintain regional peace and stability.

In other developments, a Mexican ship carrying 1,700 tons of food from Mexico and Uruguay docked in Havana to help the Cuban people.
