Hanoi National Sports Training Center celebrates 64th anniversary

Attending the ceremony were former Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Tran Chien Thang, Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Training Dang Ha Viet, leaders of the sports industry through the periods and all coaches and athletes currently training at the Center.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, Director of the Hanoi National Sports Training Center, said that 64 years ago (November 19, 1959 - November 19, 2023), the Hanoi National Sports Training Center was established with the original name of the Central Sports Technical Training School. Going through many different names, each name change marked a step forward in both quality and quantity of the Center, marking a new period, turning a new page in the history of not only the Center but also of Vietnamese sports .

No matter what stage or period, the Center always has outstanding coaches and athletes who are passionate about sports and they are always worthy for future generations of coaches and athletes to learn from and be proud of.

After 64 years of construction and development, from the early days of establishment with many difficulties and shortages, with the attention of the Party, the State and ministries, departments and branches, especially the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Department of Physical Training and Sports, the Hanoi National Sports Training Center has had many positive changes and always excellently completed its assigned tasks.

At major sporting events such as the SEA Games, ASIAD and Olympics, athletes trained at the Center won about 70% of the total medals of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation, contributing to improving the achievements of Vietnamese sports in the international arena, bringing glory to the Fatherland.

Former Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Tran Chien Thang and Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Training Dang Ha Viet presented the Prime Minister 's Certificate of Merit to Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung and the Hanoi National Sports Training Center.

Notably, at the 2016 World Games (Olympics), the Center's athletes won 1 gold medal and 1 silver medal in shooting; at the ASIAD, 18 athletes of the center won 5/5 gold medals for the Vietnamese Sports Delegation; at the 31st SEA Games, they won 127 gold medals and at the 32nd SEA Games, the center's athletes won 83 gold medals and many silver and bronze medals.

At the 19th ASIAD, the Center participated with 21 sports teams, including 68 coaches and 218 athletes. The achievements include 21 medals of all kinds, including 3/3 gold medals, 4/5 silver medals and 14/20 bronze medals of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation. Notably, Shooting won the first ASIAD gold medal in history for Vietnamese Sports; this was also the first time the Kata team won a gold medal at the ASIAD and it was only after 17 years of waiting that the Sepak Takraw team finally got the prestigious gold medal.

The Center has been honored to receive many noble awards from the Party and the State such as the Second Class Independence Medal, Third Class Independence Medal, First, Second and Third Class Labor Medals.

Speaking at the ceremony, Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Training Dang Ha Viet highly appreciated the Center's contributions to Vietnam Sports over the years. At the same time, he acknowledged and thanked the coaches on Vietnam Teachers' Day, thanks to the dedicated teachers who have helped many generations of Vietnamese sports athletes reach international arenas. Mr. Dang Ha Viet also hopes that promoting the tradition, the Center will achieve many achievements in the coming time.

Honored to be present at the ceremony, karate champion Nguyen Thi Phuong expressed: “As an athlete who has trained for many years at the Center, I feel that the Hanoi National Sports Training Center has developed in all aspects, from meals, training places to management and environmental landscape. The staff here are always dedicated to their work, lovingly helping us practice, compete and live to achieve the best results. For each athlete, we always understand that the Hanoi National Sports Training Center is the number 1 center in the country, especially the medal achievements always account for 2/3 of the total medals of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation through international sports events.

These are proud and admirable achievements, the result of the attention of leaders at all levels, especially the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Department of Physical Training and Sports, the tireless efforts of coaches, athletes and staff, civil servants and workers who are serving the teams at the Center every day and every hour. Along with that is the support of businesses, sponsors and fans.

As it kept its original promise to the teams before leaving for the 19th ASIAD, the Hanoi National Sports Training Center called for sponsorship to award outstanding athletes who won gold medals, and also awarded silver and bronze medalists at the 19th ASIAD. Although businesses are currently facing difficulties, the Hanoi National Sports Training Center was fortunate to have Nhat Nhat Pharmaceutical Company Limited accompany the Center to award coaches and athletes.

Director of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training Dang Ha Viet and former Deputy Director of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training Tran Duc Phan presented awards to coach Mai Duc Chung and the Vietnamese Judo team.

At the award ceremony for athletes with excellent achievements at the 19th Asian Games, Nhat Nhat Pharmaceutical Company Limited awarded 200 million VND/1 Asian Games gold medal (of which 100 million VND for athletes, 100 million VND for coaching staff) for 3 gold medals won by athletes training at the Center. Nhat Nhat Pharmaceutical also awarded 200 million VND to the Vietnamese Judo team for their excellent achievements in leading both SEA Games in a row, SEA Games 31 and SEA Games 32, and for the first time winning a silver medal in kata at the World Judo Championship. At the 19th Asian Games, the Judo team's athletes switched to competing in Kurush and also brought home a bronze medal. At the Kurush World Championship, the Judo athletes also won a gold medal in the 57kg category. Notably, at the ceremony, the Center also honored the head coach of the Vietnamese women's football team, Mai Duc Chung.

The companionship of Nhat Nhat Pharmaceutical has given strength to coaches and athletes to strive to train and compete better. By awarding athletes with excellent achievements, Nhat Nhat Pharmaceutical also demonstrates its responsibility to society and joins hands to contribute to the development of Vietnamese sports.
