"Coach Patrick Kluivert was hired to help Indonesia qualify for the World Cup. If he fails, he will be fired, of course," Ben Azri, an Indonesian account, said on the Asean Football website after PSSI confirmed that they had parted ways with coach Patrick Kluivert on October 16 after failing to help Indonesia qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
“The Indonesian Football Federation has officially stopped cooperating with the entire coaching staff of the Indonesian national team.
Coach Kluivert and his colleagues will no longer work for the national team, the U23 team and the U20 team of Indonesia. The termination of the two-year contract with the coaching staff of the national teams by PSSI is in line with the development direction of Indonesian football,” PSSI announced.

Coach Patrick Kluivert has only been in charge of the Indonesian national team since January this year, replacing coach Shin Tae Yong (Korean). However, the Dutch strategist's performance has been disappointing, with only 3 wins out of 8 matches. Of those, they had 1 draw and 4 matches ended in defeat.
Coach Kluivert's winning percentage as head coach of the Indonesian team was only 37.5%, causing PSSI to decide to end the cooperation immediately after the team failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
"From the beginning, I thought that PSSI "changed horses midstream", choosing Kluivert to replace Shin Tae Yong was a big mistake. Kluivert may be a good football player, but he has never been a good coach. In the end, Indonesia had to pay the price for its wrong decision," said Saiful Hassim, an Indonesian account.
"PSSI's decision to fire Kluivert was very correct. Kluivert is just useless," emphasized Christopher Takeshi Chiam from Singapore.
"Good luck to Indonesia for being so realistic! They thought it was too easy to succeed when they appointed the Dutch coach to the "hot seat". Keep dreaming about the World Cup, Indonesia, don't be discouraged," added Eric Cheng, also from Singapore.
"Whatever the decision is, I hope it is the best for Indonesian football," commented Soukanda Xayyathi from Laos.
"10 months in the hot seat, received more than 60 billion VND but only won 3 matches. Each win helps Kluivert earn more than 20 billion VND, there is nothing more profitable", Minh Hieu from Vietnam emphasized.
"It's such a waste. The money spent on hiring coach Patrick Kluivert and recruiting naturalized players should be used for youth football development. It seems that Indonesia's football training facilities are more useful.
Being eliminated from the AFF Cup group stage and reaching the 4th qualifying round of the World Cup without any results is the same, just more costly," Ekkavish Laolekplee from Indonesia concluded.
